  • Yay happy new car day.

Where abouts are you as could always stick a note on here.

  • Should've just got some halfords specials.

Problem is that as far as I am aware it's either Fuchs (older air-cooled) or BBS LM/E88 for a 911, unless anyone can think of an iconic motorsport association that has escaped me?

  • TSW Venoms. Had some on my H Reg 1.3 Ford Escort first car. Shit looked sik

  • No you need a reader that does all systems not just OBD engine stuff, where are you based?

  • Art Car. #pc2 😎

  • If you're willing to share your budget, I'd be more than happy to share some options in similar price ranges.

One set that are quite interesting, although hard to get hold of are the ATS made 9FF wheels:

  • Leeds, bit far to travel for a MK IV Astra ;-)

  • I have a German acquaintance who has a lot of free time to scour eBay.de and organise collection/accept national delivery.

There are often used Porsche fitment BBS motorsport wheels available on eBay.de

  • Ha, again, Leeds unfortunately.

My mate might have one, I’ll ask him.

    Appreciate the offer tho!

  • Scratch that

  • Work Brombachers or Meisters could "work". Excuse the pun.

Although I'm more of a fan of SSR, no real reason, just friends with a few guys who always bought SSRs rather than Works.

    Ignore the horrific bodykit!

  • If you're willing to share your budget

Driftworks have had just under £2,900 of my money since September 2019.

  • Now I've seen @Velocio V60 - my desire for a new car, and an estate has returned

  • Alright kiddos. I think I've narrowed down my car choice and I'm really really tempted by an Audi TT for about £5k to £6k. For that price I can get FSH as well as ULEZ compliance, and a mileage of around 80k - but that does mean the thing will be about 12 years old.

Am I utterly insane to contemplate this? Is it going to be a money sink even with the FSH? I don't mind doing what needs doing but if it's likely to need a complete rebuild every few years I don't want the hassle. Appreciate any advice.

  • I'm currently thinking of doing the same, but with 20 year old Boxsters, MR2s and Mk2 MX5s if it makes you feel better.

  • Hah... I was so late and so frazzled from work, but it was a fun drive over - I love my car.

  • That is about the age/mileage of my gti and i am starting to have to fix more stuff each year. this year i will have to replace the central locking in the driver's door, which will be £££. last year it was the rear control arm(s) and relevant stuff. that had to include tyres, too.

i reckon i spend a grand a year on maintenance, which will only go up. the car has been pretty much reliable and hasn't let me down yet, apart from trying to work out the issue with the door a few months back.

go for the dsg if you can

  • Ooof, bold. Do you k now enough about cars that it's a manageable risk?

  • Looking good! Sad I couldn't buy it off you!

I probably would have ruined it anyway :D

  • Absolutely not. Started looking at MG Midgets the other night too.

  • mk3 MR2 with the celica et al engine.

MG midgets, buy the cheapest possible and get it rebuit....or buy a shell you can inspect. BRM race car is the reason to do this.

  • That's good to know. I don't really mind regular maintenance if it's relatively predictable, it's the wild swings that I find hard to cope with. Will bear it in mind. Thanks dude.

  • Yeah but you're an engineer though, right?
