  • Yes but we are talking about playing music, among one of the more universal pastimes, rather than a Holby train set.

The actual issue is that hifi separates are deemed excessive when a little bluetooth speaker on the table would do for many people.

  • I don't know why tapping the woofer would help but it sounds like a faulty volume knob but I guess it could be an output amp overheating, I did have some cutting out symptoms on a mixing desk where an op amp had loosened from the heat sink.

I would dismantle the volume pot and clean the tracks.

  • Holby train set

InterCity, obviously, but what's at the other end?

  • Yeah definitely tidy cabling goes a long way. You could run flat cabling under the carpet or floorboards or even in/behind the skirting board.

No issue with treating speakers like any other piece of furniture, they need to fit the room aesthetically for sure; match your woods, standmounts over floorstanders etc...

  • trailing cables

As Taj Mahal said, "trailing vines and dew"
Could always dress 'em up a little...

  • The place we've moved into is newly plastered and painted with a new floor so options for hiding cabling are pretty limited.

  • Anyone interested in a Linn classik music CD player? Going to put it on eBay this week but £150 if anyone wants it. I bought it as it was local and said Linn on it but never really used it. Has it’s own amp as it’s got speaker outputs with plugs I don’t have, hence not using it. Only tested through headphones but appears to all work.

  • To reward myself for a year off the booze, I took a massive punt a few weeks ago. I bought this not knowing if it worked, but very cheap and prepared to restore. Cue a very squeaky bottom.

Parcelforce 48 delivered it today (it was sent on the 16th August!). I got every thing out, Put it on the floor and connected it all up with a £2 tonearm lead and an Ortofon rondo red that I had in the spares box - nothing! (Well, it spun up and the stylus was playing).

Working back from amp, checked it all. Seemed ok. Tried again - only right channel. Bit more tinkering- WOOT!

Soooo good. Even with a quick balance and set up it sounds heroic.

Really good nick, it just has centuries of dust and god knows.

    Sorry about the shit pic

  • Looking good! Definitely needs more pictures!

  • The light in this room is rubbish.

My garage plans were scuppered this weekend, so I’m going to take it apart and clean the 40 years worth of gunk off it.

I’ll post a few pics when I am done.

  • Let us know when you're ready to sell it :)

They do have a great reputation, maybe end game ?

  • Def end game for me. There’s only the new techies to try.

  • ^in before mashton

  • 😂

    Yeah yeah

    We wait...

  • I've started saving now.... :)

  • Ha.

  • I just got a hold of an Ortofon OMP40 cart for the little SL10, too - amazing cart.

  • Some pics of the beast

You can in the pic with the flash that it is all a bit grubby. It is all original, though. The deck is tidy (still has the Made in Japan sticker!) and the remote is the too. The lid could also do with a polish.

I’m just enjoy listening to it.

  • My vintage Luxman amplifier needs a service - anyone used Armstrong Audio in E17?

  • I've been there once, had a problem with my subwoofer Bowers and Wilkins ASW610XP , an issue with the power supply board.

After a looong wait, they told me they couldn't do anything to repair it, they told me the the Board is not repairable at component level (we are talking power supply here, nothing v complicated), and couldn't get the whole PCB from b&w either.

in the end I lost £40 for the "diagnostic check"and also the ubers I had to pay to carry this monster to their shop.

I guess if you need a service check and maybe just the dust removed inside that's probably fine.. They seemed like nice people, but for anything more technical I can't say I had a good experience.

  • Cheers, maybe I'll look for somewhereelse. I think at least one of the capacitors probably needs replacing as it looks a little swollen and one of the indicator bulbs has gone. I've used Bartletts previously but they're not taking in repairs at the moment. ..

    Any recommendations?

  • Anyone got any thoughts on what would be suitable replacement drivers for a pair of TDL Studio 3 speakers?

Doesn't look like NOS ones are available anywhere (admittedly haven't looked too hard) and I think I may also need a tweeter or two. Someone on the Internet mentioned the Monacor DT-250 as a suitable tweeter...

    Cheers!

  • Hi Folks

looking for some "don't get a suspension seat post, but clipless pedals are forever" type guidance here.

We are doing a home remodel from the ground up. We are at the "low voltage" chapter. Here is the materials contract from that section:

    Low-Voltage/ Home Audio Pre-Wire Only
â–ª 3.1 Surround sound wiring rough-in at 4 Seasons Porch.
â–ª 5.1 Surround sound wiring rough-in at Main Level Living Room
â–ª 7.1 Surround sound wiring rough-in at Lower Level Living Room
â–ª Cat 6E/ Coaxial Cable at Each Bedroom.
â–ª 1 pair Speakers: Kitchen, Dining, Master Bedroom, Deck/Patio.
â–ª 2ea. Wireless Access Points. Upper Hallway and Laundry Room ceiling.
â–ª 4 ea. Security Camera Drops
â–ª 1 ea. Nest or Comparable Doorbell

any warnings or things to do or not do? we have a specialist working with the contractor, so he can work out the details. I just don't want anything stupid.

  • I'd put cabled Ethernet everywhere you expect to have stationary network-attached devices (PC/server, printer, TV/PVR etc.) because it's faster and more reliable than WiFi and it avoids congesting your WiFi so all the bandwidth is available for your mobile devices.
