  • Looks like Stalen Ros, always wanted to go there... gazelle group ride anyone?

  • I'm in if we do it in Amsterdam region :)

Btw definitely Stalen Ros, in lovely metropolitan Neerkant. Been there thrice and wasn't dissapointed once. Total nutters from all over Europe, great company.

  • That purple baanfiets is georgeous... although not correctly restored with the chrome bits and wrong decals, still a beauty to behold. That colour is totally late 60s though and on point.

  • Why would anyone want to ride a bike in or near Amsterdam 😜 if we do it in Brabant, I'm in!

  • Swapped out the crank arms on 125 jaar. Chorus carbon arms, with the centaur rings.

I quite like the silver and black look. It fits with the potenza.

I really need to chop that steerer. Just need a brass topcap for it

  • Nice! Fender mounts and a butterfly bridge, what’s not to love!

  • This just annoys me...... (£1950)

It's like when you see a BMW E34 with 225k milage for £10k

  • That's a great colour! What year is it from? I have a red 1979 A frame with the same fork crown, but older decals.

  • classy, how do you mean older decals? (I've read that the 'Champion Mondial' decal on your top tube means that this model was originally for the German market... for some reason...'

  • 'Appreciating classic, daily driver...'

  • No, these are actually the first ones, similar to the 'Locomotief' ones, the brand that Gazelle bought in the late 60s to start their own road bike division. After Harm Ottenbros became world champion on a Gazelle in 1969, thay named their top model Champion Mondial with these decals. For the German market, this name was already a protected brand, so they left out 'mondial' on frames in Germany. The top tube decal changed to those on ifonlyiwerebelgian's blue A frame somewhere around 1980.

Edit: top tube decal changed from block font to script font in 1981. This lovely website tells you all you need to know about the champion mondial:

  • 🙌 nice! thanks for the info! 👍🏻

If you look at the colour reference page the ‘gazelleblauw’ reference image is actually my bike...

  • Hi...that bike was in the hands of the old chairman of the W.V.EEMLAND team... I have no idea if the team back then was yellow and greenish or if this bike was made for him or whats the story behind but I could ask.

The other thing is that has no tab for the number so probably went straight to this gentleman from the factory. Never seen a bike in this colors neither an old gazelle for the team itself ever so probably only a few are moving around? maybe they swapped sponsorship after a season?? who knows, but no pictures what so ever of any of this WVEMMLAND team gazelles from this era. I know the seller had one from back when he was racing in this team.

The team looks like is still active and they jersey colors are red. Im really curious about the story of this one. Once I have any news I will let you guys know. Same with pictures of the bike aswell when arrives here :D

  • Is it possible that the race number tag is screw-on, like a hole for a bottle cage? I had one like that on my titan (see previous page) and believe I have seen those on later steel Gazelles as well. Looking at the photo's there appears to be one of those underneath the toptube, but may be wishfull thinking.
Edit: on this yellow specimen you see what I think is one of those

  • Hi, just went to check out the pictures and you are right, there is a faint thingy in the pictures that indicates that the screw boss for the number hanger is there. Interesting because the team TVM one i have the bosses for the brake cables are different... now need to locate that hanger...

Thanks a lot for mentioning that detail, totally forgot about it.

  • Interesting info. Yeah my TVM 731Os race also has a screw in race holder. Makes sense and a nice detail.

Oh also congratulations, nice purchase 👍🏼

  • Looks in great condition
