• This is a Reynolds 853 frame, custom built by Kevin Winter.

As you may know, Kevin is the go-to frame builder in the north east, having been active since the 80’s. He builds all kinds of bike is steel, aluminium, titanium and carbon, and has build frames for a number of pro riders. He’s always got a long waiting list, and all this through word of mouth.

Kevin is from a time served toolmaker engineering background, and originally, as a Development Engineer specialised in the design of custom machinery. He designed and built a set of tooling for one of his colleagues at work who had decided to open a small cycle business, building bespoke frames and complete cycles to customer order. Kevin became a 753-approved frame builder in 1989 and currently holds a BS4872 welder approval certificate working in all bike tube gauges.

This frame is designed as a do-it-all machine, light and responsive but comfortable. It’s features nice details such as a pump peg and stainless brake bridge. A 1 1/8” head tube keeps the proportions elegant, whilst the sloping top tube keeps it modern.

    Dimensions are:
    Seat tube: 55cm CTT
Top tube: 57cm actual, 58cm effective
    Head tube: 16.6cm
    Chain stays: 43cm (adjustable)
    Seat angle: 73 degrees
    Head angle: 72 degrees
    Head set: 1 1/8”
    Bottom bracket: BSA

There are fittings for mudguards and racks, and clearance for wider tyres.
    The frame comes with:
Deda black rain fork, colour matched
3t Arx II Team stem (120mm), colour matched
    Cane Creek head set

The 3t carbon seat post is available separately, if needed.

As the photos show, it’s in excellent condition.

  • Hi . Lovely frame could you tell me how old it is and how tall are you to give me an idea of sizing for me.

  • One more thing will it take long drop brakes?

  • Has it ever been built? It does not look like it.

  • Wow that is lovely. Kev is a perfectionist and a great guy. Sadly to small for me. GLWS

  • Sorry for the slow responses!

It’s had bottom bracket cups in, but that’s as far as it’s gone since it was refurbed a couple of years ago. It was refurbed more because of the terrible original colour (beyond my words of description), than for wear and tear; it had had only light use up to that point.

Yes, it takes long drop brakes.

  • Good morning lawrence. I have some problems with gmail sending back my messages ,they are saying your server is not responding...if you are still interested in my offer for the frame please het intouch and we can arrange delivery.
