• Is there truly a bike out there that fits this bill?

    1. Use for commuting – Mudguards and road tyres (32mm or so)
    2. Use for winter training – relatively racey geo
    3. Use for offroad/cross – mudguards off and knobbly 33's on and disc brakes
    4. Alloy but stiff

I have a 2015 arkose and it's just not particularly springer or responsive even with road tyres and an OK wheelset.

I'm sure there's more out there. Early "gravel" frames took around 35mm tyres max but over time they've been competing for who can fit the fattest tyres and now most frames seem to be up to 28 tyres or like 40/45mm tyres.

  • Pfadfinder pre-sale is this weekend @GrimpeurG but it's a bit spenny. I'm getting one though, having asked almost the same question a couple of weeks ago. I was pretty set on the Standert to start with but having shopped around it does seem to be about the roadiest gravel bike out there, if that's what you want.
