• Is there truly a bike out there that fits this bill?

    1. Use for commuting – Mudguards and road tyres (32mm or so)
    2. Use for winter training – relatively racey geo
    3. Use for offroad/cross – mudguards off and knobbly 33's on and disc brakes
    4. Alloy but stiff

I have a 2015 arkose and it's just not particularly springer or responsive even with road tyres and an OK wheelset.

  • In my limited experience it’s hard to find something that does all of this well. My cdf is great for commuting, winter training, occasional gravel/towpaths etc. But it was horrible for cross. I used it for a couple of seasons and it was perfectly serviceable but (a) repeatedly fitting/removing mudguard/racks was a PITA and (b) my cross bike is vastly more fun for racing or longer off road adventures.

I wanted one bike to do everything but multiple bikes are better :-)
