The Longdan cash and carry in Leyton, which was already one of the best vegan shopping spots in East London has pivoted to becoming something of a vegan supermarket too and now carries loads of Biona/Suma/Marigold etc

I think all Longdans - Camden and Colindale are also fantastic goldmines.

Also, best places to buy high quality Indian spices? It’s been almost 8 years since I left London so feel a bit out the loop.
Indian Spice Shop on Drummond Street (next to Euston) is one option

Spread eagle is a good place to check out. It’s just a pub but everything is vegan, the food is good.
If you’re after some junk food, Owee vegan has definitely scratched my junk food itch since going vegan.

Absolutely, the Camden one is right by my office and I guess they will roll out the vegan stuff to the other stores if they haven't already.
Seems they have even more online https://longdan.co.uk/collections/the-plantbase-store

Here's a stomach-churning tragedy, notwithstanding the fact that animals on live animal transports are generally destined to be butchered.
I've read a lot about this industry before, but the thought of them drowning confined in their cages in the belly of the ship is utterly horrendous. And I'm not ignoring the human victims, as some of the sailors died, too, but fewer of them would have been trapped below deck and they could take action to escape the sinking, which would always be impossible even for animals not trapped below deck.

That's absolutely horrible, a really tough read. Even if you take into account the fact that they were on their way to be slaughtered, that's a horrible way to go.

Whilst I'm here, does anyone have recommendations for a good spot for lunch in or around East Dulwich?

To answer my own question about Düsseldorf on the previous page... Didn't see any 100% vegan places but plenty of vegan options on menus. It seemed to be either "traditional" big lump of meat and potatoes type places or more hip type places doing more fashionable type stuff, of which there was often vegan options.

Spice Box on Hoe Street in Walthamstow is great. Liked by most vegans in E17:
https://eatspicebox.co.uk/app/uploads/2020/08/SpiceBoxDinner_Aug2020.pdf
They have vids of their recipes, type in Spice Box TV on YouTube for other recipes:

Sorry, I missed that--too late now, but there seem to be three vegan places (all part of the "Sattgrün" mini-chain) and plenty of vegetarian ones:
https://www.happycow.net/europe/germany/dusseldorf/
"Sattgrün" means a rich green, literally something like 'a saturated green'.
-
• #8139
More 'sated' than 'saturated', but yea..

Blue brick cafe

Quite true, I should have mentioned the pun. In German, "satt" means both 'sated', as in a person being no longer hungry, and 'saturated', as in colours in English.
-

'saturated', as in colours
..no, that's gesättigt 🙂
-
• #8143
Sattgrün is a great word, will add it to my paltry German knowledge.
-
• #8144
Well, I was just translating into English, where 'a sated green' isn't the set phrase. I suppose people could understand it, but it would sound odd. In German, both are possible, with very slightly different meanings.

Yes, you are absolutely right.

Tibits is super nice with a veggie/vegan buffet available that changes seasonally. I think it's closed right now though :/

Thanks, I can't believe I forgot Cook Daily.
