Sometimes a hat is faster than not wearing a hat.
I was thinking that the star trek cervelo handlebars seem quite good for the missing aero bar aero position. I think he had his hands holding onto his aero computer mount?

Dat stem.
It probably isn’t very aero at all in regular use. But the ability to put your chest flat against it, where the end of a steerer-tube would normally be ... that has to be fast.

• #604
If only he was even faster.

“I’m not happy — I feel sad that I didn’t win,” Hirschi said. “I feel not good. I feel sad.”

I’d disagree crappy attitude to have.

They brought in Aru to lead the team in GTs. He’s won a single race in three years and his best GC result is 14th in last year’s Tour. By any objective assessment, he’s failed to deliver the results he was expected to.

I know sport is by definition fairly public but I can't help but feel those words should be had behind closed doors. By shitting the bed so publicly the ex world champ has made everyone look stupid.
Behind the lines, it's clear he didn't think Aru was up to it, but was forced to include him?

We’ve disagreed on this topic before, with R. Dennis. If someone has previously delivered to the level Aru has, any objective assessment would lay at least half the blame with management.
Again the Dennis example somewhat proves this as he went on to TT WC. -

Just found some jokes thread on Cycling News where someone is theorising that Aru has Covid.
That apparently explains why he's suddenly gone so tired, and he's taking one for the team by pulling out ahead of today's tests 😂

With this argument, you could say:
Mark Cavendish. He has been paid to deliver and hasn't, has been protected by management. Hasn't delivered.

In the context of the interview given. Blaming his lack of trying or gritting and barring it is straight out the 80s playbook of talent management.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of shame in public.
Jose M and Pep G seem to do it a lot. I think it undermines people.

Was roadside in the dolomites and saw astana rider sticky bottling up one of the big climbs. Was quite dramatic in the flesh, reckon he picked up like 20kmph for 500m

I think there’s been a demonstration of bad management regardless of Aru’s performance based on manager comments.
Also the culture within the team is not quite the same as Jumbo Visma, where Tom Dumoulin, Giro winner, is sacrificing himself for Roglic. Don’t see Aru doing the same for Pogocar.

He was descending at some points with his chin resting on his iPad, hopefully he doesn't have many filings

I've put £1 on Marc Hirschi to win the white jersey. 500/1 so may as well.

just the hour to make up

Hirschi is 1:02:57 down on GC. Which means he needs to recover 1:02:37 on Bernal to take the white jersey.
-
• #621
Ah shit I was looking at the wrong tab on the tour website, stage rather than general. Oh well, I'm happy to gamble for a quid that Bernal may crack and drop out.
-
• #622
And the 7 others that are also before Hirschi? :)

Where can I watch these three HC stages?
I don't have a screen or internet at my place anymore.Sunday, 13 September - stage 15: Lyon - Grand Colombier, 174.5km
Wednesday, 16 September - stage 17: Grenoble - Meribel, 170km
Thursday, 17 September - stage 18: Meribel to La Roche-sur-Foron, 175km -

A couple of sticky bottles could sort that out.

@rhowe - are there any places that show them that you know of?
HEX seems to be gone.
Edit: Look Mum does.

Maybe, but he was wearing the hat in case of crashing, and he didn't crash, so he might have been faster if he hadn't worn it.
