Track saws are definitely life changing. So much easier / faster to get accurate cuts.

Well, that room is certainly not going spare. :)

It's only spare til December when the baby arrives... DIY is much easier when you've got a hard deadline!

What do you look for in a good circular saw? Will I get anything decent for £100?
-
• #23681
Corded or Cordless? I would look for track compatibility. check depths that you want it to be able to cut as well.

I'm replacing my shower enclosure - the recommended fixing is a wallplug with a 6mm drill bit specified. I need to drill through tiles unfortunately. Should I use a 7 or 8mm tile bit and then use a 6mm normal bit in the wall once I'm through the tile? Or 6mm all the way?

Because you have had problems with adhesion in those spots, could be grease or damp, it would be wise to sue a penetrating primer like the one that comes with the dulux weather shield system.
-
• #23684
6mm all the way should be fine.

Thanks! I haven’t had much luck before with the Dulux water based primer. Any others you’d recommend? Coovar? Do Zinsser do one?
-
• #23686
I'm not sure Zinsser do but I usually use cover stain. It's not penetrating though. I'm not sure what's causing the problem with your windows though. At least cover stain is useful in lots of applications, its not moisture vapour permeable though.
All coat is the Zinsser all in one exterior paint. I use a lot of it. Its supposed to be self priming but you might have something else going on with that patch on the window so I was reluctant to recommend it.

It’s not just a patch. None of the paint has adhered on the frame. Those bits I picked off with my fingers. This was supposedly done by a professional.

I was thinking of using Superdec as a temporary fix as it is permeable and seems to stick. I don’t want to spend four days on it just to last the winter.

I don’t want to spend four days on it
(That's what I just said before spending 5 days struggling with my window)

Lol. In fairness that’s how long the professional took. It would take me much longer!

I've seen this kind of blistering happen before but not had to deal with prepping it. Sometimes there's a lot of resin in the wood that comes to the surface, the best way to get rid of resin is an IR stripper. It might not be the problem but if it is it might be possible to seal it with 'knotting', basically shellac.
-
• #23692
I mixed up a bottle of shellac varnish a few weeks ago. I’ll slap some of that on before going in with a primer. As ever, thanks for the advice!

Recently my wireless thermostat packed up so I replaced it with a smart one. I dont seem to have done a good job at replacing it as it doesn't seem to be be firing my boiler up. I think the wiring on the back plate is probably incorrect. The current wiring and the danfoss instructions are shown below as well as the new instructions (The new instruction are the ones with One Channel).
Can someone help me make sense of it? I can't see how the current wiring diagram lines up the what is attached to the plate.

Fail at multiple file upload. Above is the current wiring and below is the diagram which should describe the photo.

Failed again. Here is the new layout required. I think I just need to move the connection from 2 and 3 one left to 1 and 2.

Does anyone have a good source for repro victorian 4 panel doors. I'm after full panel and half glazed. Plenty of online companies offer them but it's hard to judge the quality from a shitty thumbnail.

About 6 months ago there was a link to a nice but pricey recommendation for door furniture, letterboxes, knockers, indoor handles etc. Any ideas, I now cant find it

I've also looked for this and can't find it.
So, any recommendations from people on where to buy letterboxes?
Finally got round to putting shelves up in our hall cupboard this weekend. Borrowed a mate's track saw to cut the slats - I can't believe I've done all the rest of the DIY in the house without one. If I was starting a new big set of projects, I would definitely invest in one, and an impact driver...
Also can't believe we had all these boxes just piled up in our spare room for so long.
