I agree with you, that the BLB is solid - but the quality is subpar. I had one develop a significant amount of surface rust despite being kept under cover.

This. Had one of their baskets and it started rusting after two weeks.

I bought the rack as a combo with the basket, I can only ecco your experience.
In comparison I have a Wald that is several years older, has been stored in worse conditions, but is in much better shape.
