Stolen bikes

  • Sorry to hear about this, looks like a really nice build!

I just had my bike stolen on Monday, I'd certainly recommend filing a report with the police immediately. Though it's unlikely they'll be able to do much (unless you can provide them CCTV footage), there's no harm in trying and at the very least you'll be contributing to the number of bike thefts that are officially recorded which is only a good thing for better allocation of police resources etc. Also keep your eyes peeled on Gumtree/eBay/Facebook Marketplace/Shpock, even consider visiting Brick Lane Market tomorrow as that's a notorious spot for stolen bikes to be sold on. Also worth checking out the Stolen Bikes in London Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as stolen-bikes.co.uk where you can register it as stolen. Might be overboard but I even printed out a load of posters and stuck them up around my area and asked local business to keep an eye out.

Best of luck in the hunt!

  • I've never had a bike stolen (lucky me) before and not so sure what else I can do to try and track it down

Check this thread too in case of useful info https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/176548/newest/

  • You assume the thieves know what they are dealing with - they usually don't.

An opportunity to make a quick buck, that's all it is.

On another note, lock your front wheels, otherwise that's another quick buck.

  • We had a kid’s Frog bike with the bars ripped off last week. In fact we had 9 bikes in week with the cockpits ripped off, so there’s clearly some cunt going around with a 4/5mm AK ripping people off. Generally the plod don’t give a tin shit.

  • Indeed, opportunist with an AK, the other modus operandi that we see a lot is that they don't even bother undoing the cables, just snip through them and gone!

  • I take my comment back as even a pair of microsift brifters are just shy of £100.

No serial numbers so not traceable at all, unless smart watered.

  • The stolen cock pit was taken from a main road junction in Stamford Hill, around lunchtime. The bike was locked with two D locks.

  • I'll say they are quite brazen - one of my mate's bike was locked in front of a pretty busy pub in Hoxton!

  • Well the only ‘high risk’ moments they likely face are the 5-30 seconds of actually stealing stuff and starting to get away. They know the police won’t give a damn, and it’s not like their career options will be destroyed if they’re caught. Even if stopped by the victim or a good samaritan, unless they’re threatening the victim or take the first swing, the victim can’t just lay into them like might happen in other places to, disuade, thievery. They’re cunts, why wouldn’t they continue to brazenly do the things they do?

Edit-ranting, not intended as a direct reply to you, Coventry_Eagle.

  • Totally agree, the same goes with nicking unsecured front wheels, mere seconds and they are (in)done... :(

  • Morning all,

A bit of a conundrum here. Walking home early Sunday morning and I come across an abandoned bike (circa £350 new) left on the street with the front tyre punctured.

I assumed that someone had stolen it, gotten a puncture and just dumped it, so i took it home for safe keeping.

Now i dont know what to do with it? Any suggestions

  • Are there any distinctive/unique features? If so you could potentially circulate a vague description with a phone number or even a temporary email address and see if someone can describe their missing bike in more detail. That probably doesn't work if it's a completely stock Carrera or something though! Good job on bringing it in off the street.

  • Its a stock OTP road bike, looks fairy new, it has had a tyre upgrade.

I am going back this morning to leave a sign saying that I found a bike and to contact me with a description.

If no one contacts (legitimately), then what do I do? Feel its pointless giving it to the police who couldn't give two...

  • Then you give it to the police.

  • If it has been reported, they will return it to the owner.

If your efforts at reuniting the bike don't work take it to the Police. Pretty sure after a time you can request they return it to you if unclaimed.

Believe me, the Police do try to return stolen property.

  • Yeah, we had 6 bikes in that day, two got stripped outside the climbing centre. It’s just ridiculous.

  • Just had a Cannondale caad10 aluminium black Inc stolen from around Oxford street. Old Dura ace groupset with rs80 shallow wheels and all crankset with oval chainrings. Will look for pic's once I'm back.

    Thanks

  • Ah man that's where I climb :/

A suspiciously good build with expensive parts and very little info.
Green Chris King rear hub, Omnium cranks, what looks like Cannondale Lefty forks, H+ Purple rims.

Not sure if someone is missing one!

  • outside the climbing centre

    Which climbing centre?

  • I had this bike stolen from outside a cafe on Camberwell Church Street on Monday evening at around 20.45. Please contact me if you have any information or hear of it being offered for sale.

Details about the bike: 59cm Celo Europa track frame. Chrome Basso road fork. Campagnolo seatpost, headset, cranks and pedals. Black suede Concor saddle. Large 55 tooth drilled chainring. Rigida rims, Maillard track hubs and Gatorskin tyres. Single black front brake with black lever. Black plastic toe clips and black suede toe straps. Silver 3ttt track stem and silver riser bars with black grips.

    Thank you

this is the same bike, could always try and message the user to see if it's legit?
doesn't look that sus to me IMO

  • Epic typo in that Reddit thread: Chris Kink

  • Which climbing centre?

It must be the Castle. Lots of bikes have been reported stolen or damaged from there over the years, unfortunately.

  • Stolen From Stoke Newington :(

My Bianchi Mega X Pro got nicked from literally under my nose in the middle of the day last week. It was very temporarily locked up outside my ground floor, very exposed, open window while I was basically two metres away from it (I didn't see anything). Don't hold out much hope of seeing it again but posting here anyway. Any help gratefully accepted.

    Sorry for the crappy photo.
