You know I really like the front end of those bikes, but really hate the rear.

Approved
Although they must be wearing tinted sunglasses at the time of recording

WTF is going on on the damper side of the fork, looks like essentially a really long rear shock in place of the damper
It's a cartridge damper so yeah, that's pretty much what it is.

Needs a piggy back then. The problem with all this stuff is that is all a bit beyond the home mechanic. Imagine having to take your bike to the workshop every time you want to make an adjustment, or carrying round a can of nitrogen, and having to lubricate everything with EXT.

That video/that guy/those bikes are amazing

I'm doing a 3 day offroad ride in a week or two and need some gloves with a little padding on the palms to take some sting out. Any recommendations?

Motocross gloves. If you can find them, buy some Richa armoured gloves.

are mtb cassette lockrings smaller than road ones? My chain jumps when in the smallest cog, as though the chain isn't engaging with the cog fully, but the lockring doesn't look obviously too big. Is that an schoolboy error?

They should be the same assuming you have an 11up cassettes

This sounds like one of two things ,
crap in the cable outer - lubricate it or replace it
Or

Sack off gloves. Get some ESI Silicon grips. Your hands will thank you.

Must be weird going back to riding that bike?

I really thought it was going to be, but it felt like the most natural thing in the world to be on it again. I did set 20 or so PR’s at Swinley without pushing hard, which says something- mainly that my line choice clearly used to be terrible.

If you had the opportunity to WFH for a couple of months in the alps for late season mtb (Ie now) / early season skiing...where would you go?

St Anton (Austria) or Jungfrau (Interlaken/Grindelwald) would be my choices...

Annecy. Lived there for a while. There's a trail from the top of La Clusaz all the way to the town and you can still swim in the lake this time of year. Loads of local dirt trails around the lake too.
Don't think it's got any rebound damping. I loved the measuring of the lower fluid, just be the only person pouring it in from the top, also WTF is going on on the damper side of the fork, looks like essentially a really long rear shock in place of the damper.
