Was just talking about that last night with my partner, as a 'mixed' family find it deeply upsetting how someone could try impersonate a person of color taking advantage of the ambiguous ground within colourisim.

I don't really understand it, but one motivation, apart from general issues that a person might have, could be guilt about history and present, perhaps especially in the case of an academic who knows about both. Still bizarre and indefensible.
