I may be far off the mark but 900 is a bargain IMO.
No way any have sold for £300, or if they have its fluke.
This is a lower spec version of the one you are looking at... https://www.hoxtonmacs.co.uk/products/macbook-pro-15-inch-core-i7-2-8ghz-pro-555-4gb-silver-mid-2017?variant=12326329876582¤cy=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItcfmnKvG6wIVEoFQBh39TwVEEAQYAiABEgKcUfD_BwE -

The £300 ones im talking about are damaged but I was more going by what the prices on ebay sold were. I also know the person selling it so its not had really any hard use and hes only upgraded as the MacBook doesn't fit in his prada day bag LOLLLL. So hes went and got a top 13"

• #16229
I think it’s a very fair price if it’s in a decent condition and all working well.

Tough life choice.

My 2008 imac has stopped loading google maps? This is the end right?
In a predicament, I have a 2012 mbp which doesn't have any adobe stuff which I need for work, so mainly use a 2008 imac which has everything already installed that I need for work, adobe, office etc. except now google maps isn't loading which is key. It runs on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b) and doesn't want to update.
I'm not really sure what would be the best course of action going forward, do I get a newer laptop, run a larger screen at the studio and bring laptop back back and forth from studio? I don't see this being great in the long term as its more likely that I will be bringing work home etc.
Do I get something like a mac mini 2012, soup it up and attach two screens for work at the studio space, then try and get my 2012 mbp fixed? with an added screen at home on my desk to recreate the imac set up?
Or would getting a more modern 2nd hand imac be better in the long term for the studio?
Use is limited to mainly for basic stuff like research, photoshop, indesign, lightroom general file management, no video or anything major. Actually, sometimes having 10/20 medium sized images in photoshop? No music or large storage really needed for the studio as its all spotify atm, but would be a bonus and prob a good investment.
Also, after reading sharkstars post last page, it got me realising maybe something like a 2012 mac mini would be better as its less of a financial risk? and could be cheaper in the long run. Don't really want to spend more than £500 right now.

Also my mid 2012 mbp needs battery replacing, can anyone on here sort this out for me and maybe give it a once over? Have managed to upgrade the memory but could prob do with the ssd upgrade.
Thanks

To just address this first point - it's the browser you're using that does not load google maps any more, presumably because it's just too old and doesn't support certain things.
So, as a small workaround which buys you some time - could you maybe download / use a different browser that still lets you use maps? -
• #16236
When I try to download another browser it says along the lines of "Your system doesn't meet the requirements to run Firefox."
From what I managed to research last night I think its time to get something newer annoyingly.
-
• #16237
Have you tried installing a newer MacOS from scratch? Ie from a usb drive or cd?
-
• #16238
You can try downloading the newest version of Firefox that will run on Lion:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1202522tbh I wouldn't spend any money on upgrading or buying 2012 hardware, as it's definitely on borrowed time. Put the money towards something newer with some more life left in it.

Looks like you can land a 2018 mac mini for £500 on ebay with a bit of luck
I'd do that, then upgrade ram when you can

Curry’s have the Mac Mini for £400 on their eBay site. It’s the 2018 model, which is the same spec as the current one from the Apple store just with a 128gb SSD, but is £400 cheaper. It’s a pretty decent price, you can get a lot of SSD or Ram for the price difference.

Amazing. Thanks @Muppetteer and @kboy. Looks like the best course of action.
Think everyones right and it's best just to go with more modern stuff. And replace the mbp with something next year.
Next question - what would be whats the most economic screen option? two decent sized ones would be ideal - 22" would prob be enough

This is good reading on monitors
https://bjango.com/articles/macexternaldisplays/
But generally I think Dell are pretty decent if you're on a budget. Just make sure you don't end up in the weird world in-between non-retina and retina, it seems like you pay more and get less
Maybe check Dell refurb? Dunno if it beats Amazon prices, but worth a look
https://www.dellrefurbished.co.uk/computer-monitors
This, for example, seems like a good bet for £169 https://www.dellrefurbished.co.uk/computer-monitors/dell-professional-series-24-p2417h-61738.html but I think someone more clued up should confirm. It connects with USB-C which I think beats hdmi every day of the week

I don’t think it does... also only 1080p
If you can stretch to it, always look for a QHD minimum with USB C power delivery.
A single 27” with those features beats two 22” monitors all day long
-
• #16244
No? My experience is limited but the only non apple (or LG) monitor I've had the hdmi connection resulted in weird colours while displayport just worked.
Do you get the same data capacity benefits with hdmi? Ie one cable does it all, and then you can hook up usb drives etc to the monitor
-
• #16245
Sorry - i meant the monitor you linked to doesn't have USB C :)
USB C is definitely much better than HDMI if you can afford a monitor with it...
-
• #16246
Ah, gotcha
Yeah don't listen to me when it comes to monitors. I did my research and got a non apple one that was shit, since then I'm throwing money at it instead

• #16247
I've got one of these for work - pretty reasonably priced and has lasted 3 or 4 years of work use so 8+ hours a day. Is 27" 4k, has USB-c power delivery with a couple of USB ports on the back.

I got the LG UltraFine 24" 4k a few months ago and dont regret it, crispy, clear, one cable is easy

The charging plug/cable for my MacBook Pro 13” 2017 is on the way out.
The official replacement cost nearly £70. Is there any good reason to pay this over a £25/30 no official version?
Thanks

Curry’s have the Mac Mini for £400 on their eBay site
Thats madness.
Guys can I get a price check, looking to buy and not sure if its over priced.
2017 Macbook Pro 15"
2.9ghz I7 guessing its a quad
16gb ram
intel hd graphics 630 1536 Card
Think its a 500gb Solid state or flash in it.
Persons looking for £900 Cash, Im thinking £800. prices on ebay are very up and down some at £1500 and some at £300 but a lot are about £900 ish but the you have to take into account sellers fees and PayPal.
Thoughts before I try and negotiate.
Thanks
