This is good reading on monitors

But generally I think Dell are pretty decent if you're on a budget. Just make sure you don't end up in the weird world in-between non-retina and retina, it seems like you pay more and get less
Maybe check Dell refurb? Dunno if it beats Amazon prices, but worth a look

This, for example, seems like a good bet for £169 https://www.dellrefurbished.co.uk/computer-monitors/dell-professional-series-24-p2417h-61738.html but I think someone more clued up should confirm. It connects with USB-C which I think beats hdmi every day of the week

@BigH I’ve just got the LG 27QN880-B 27'' QHD Ergo IPS Monitor which I can really recommend. It’s not the cheapest at £358, but the quality is fantastic and the clamp arm is really great.
Amazing. Thanks @Muppetteer and @kboy. Looks like the best course of action.
Think everyones right and it's best just to go with more modern stuff. And replace the mbp with something next year.
Next question - what would be whats the most economic screen option? two decent sized ones would be ideal - 22" would prob be enough
