When I try to download another browser it says along the lines of "Your system doesn't meet the requirements to run Firefox."
From what I managed to research last night I think its time to get something newer annoyingly.

To just address this first point - it's the browser you're using that does not load google maps any more, presumably because it's just too old and doesn't support certain things.
So, as a small workaround which buys you some time - could you maybe download / use a different browser that still lets you use maps?
