Got a lung full of carbon dust too no doubt.
Don’t fuck with that shit dude. Glad it’s worked out well, but we don’t have a shortage of masks atm. Wear one. Carbon dust is nasty stuff

Not familiar with any of these bieks, anything with caliper or mini-v’s?
-

caliper or mini-v’s?
Yeah sure there is! stay tuned pal :)

I was just being facetious. I was wearing the type of mask I wear to the shops.
But have ordered a respirator mask for the painting -

I think I'll keep this thread just to the tarmac and the inbred build to try keep it neat.
@Acliff Did you run any bb30 chainsets on any of your specialized bikes?
I'm confused about whether bb30 chainsets fit natively onto the frame without using any spacers or not. My only previous experience with bb30 is with my caad10 and the hollowgram chainset.
The frameset came with ceramicspeed bearings. I feel I'd be better trying to punt these on ebay and go with something like the threaded praxis bb30 solution

My tarmac sl6 is force axs hrd and the new 25mm zipps. I run 58/56 in my 30s pro ones and its bonkers good.
Its now as fast as my 'fast bike' which is the cannondale with red chainset and force axs rim brakes.
It is also very, very comfy.
I love it.
But feel a bit dirty as its not a dale and has compact geo.
Both firsts for me.Need to change bars and then I'm done.

Which axle standard is on your force axs chain set? bb30 or dub? and what bottom bracket are you using?
I run 58/56 in my 30s
Jesus. Is this set up tubeless yeah? Looking at the recommended pressure charts, 58/56 suggest you might be around same weight as me? 88-92kg depending on the weather
Did it feel squirmy at first with these pressures or just take a bit of getting used to?

Yes I did, though the SL6 is standard BB30 68mm, rather than the OSBB 61mm I have on my Sworks Venge.
Fit normal BB30 cranks with 3.5mm spacers each side. The Allez Sprint that I had I think is the same BB30 arrangement as you, and it fit a Sram Red etap BB30 crankset very easily.
No creaking with either, with BB30 cranks, PF30 cranks, Wheels MFG shimano/gxp adapters installed.
Do you need to install the bearings yourself?

Fit normal BB30 cranks with 3.5mm spacers each side.
Thanks, this is what I wanted to hear. If I buy cranks second hand theres the likely ball ache of them not coming with the correct spacers if any. This puts my mind at rest.
Indeed my OSBB is effectively the same as bb30. BB30 = 68x42 mm.I ran hollowgram on my caad10 and invested in a proper bearing press and installed the bearings my self. To my surprise there was absolutely no creaking on the caad10.
So I can install the bearings my self no problem. But I'll hold off as I'm still not sure exactly which crank system I'll end up with.
If I end up with bb30 cranks I wouldnt mind a threaded solution like this https://www.ceramicspeed.com/en/cycling/shop/bottom-brackets/bb30-for-sram-dub-road/
But ideally another cheaper brand rather than ceramicspeed.
Did you ever run the supplied ceramicspeed bb30 bearings that came with any of your frames? I'm not sure what I'd get on ebay for mine but I'm not convinced I should keep them. -

No I weigh 67-68. I used their online calculator and added 5psi. For reasons that are unscientific. Slowly going down.
Dub. Really rate it as a better solution.I'll try the recommended psi this weekend... wish me luck.

For reasons that are unscientific
haha my kinda guy.
I'll be doing a bit of experimenting with pressures 28c and 30c tires. I was quite happy with 80psi on my previous bike running tubes so guessing once I'm set up tubeless I could drop a few psi.
Yeah I think if I do switch to 12 speed then I'll go with DUB.
I have DUB cranks on a mtb. I like the preload collar compared to messing about with wave washers and shims. -

Still got the ceramicspeed BB30 bearings that came with my frame. Just cleaned and added some more grease on occasion, good as gold.
Having said that, I don't put silly mileage into any of my bikes, so they haven't been ground to a paste at a grand tour or daily commute riding.Loads of people I know have the Praxis threaded BB30 and rate them, but I don't think they do a threaded native BB30 bottom bracket? All their bottom brackets fit either their M30, or wider PF30/BB386, or shimano/GXP spindle widths as the bearings are positioned outside the shell.
So if you were going for Sram Red 11 speed BB30 cranks, you'd need to keep the Ceramicspeed bearings, if you had the Sram Red 11/Quarq PF30 detachable spider cranks you could go for the Praxis.
Also if you decide to go down the Hollogram cranks, you won't be able to use the Praxis.
The return to the threaded BB for the SL7 has been fascilitated by the likes of SRAM adopting DUB BBs, which allow all their new cranks to fit on BSA with the DUB threaded BB, and Shimano have always had threaded.

It would be good if Cannondale produced a PF30 version of their Hollowgram SI/SISL2, though unlikely if they typically only supply them as a part with one of their bikes...
-
• #40
but I don't think they do a threaded native BB30 bottom bracket?
Ah yeah I just realised this earlier. Its really only a good solution if I wanted to run 24mm shimano cranks. If I keep 11 speed etap then matching Red bb30 crankset seems like its going to be the most practical solution.
I'm hee'n and hawing a lot over going with axs in which case I'd chose the DUB axle crankset -

subbed, in the process of building a ratty singlespeed pompino
-
• #42
Have had the same thought.
I'd really have liked to run Red axs with hollowgram arms and spidering. But I'd have wanted the sub compact 46-33 size rings which doesn't exist via spidering! -
• #44
now i wanna know what the fork is...
did the superlogic stem sell ? -
• #45
I'm also going to be building a ratty pompino soon! (maybe not so ratty)
-

I'm sure you're being sensible, but I'd treat carbon dust like I'd treat asbestos. It's really, really nasty stuff. A good way to stop dust getting into the air is to wet sand - if you're doing it dry and there's dust in the air you 100% need some kind of extraction.
-
• #47
ahah no given your project history, probably not
-
• #48
Yes, I appreciate my tone didnt sound too serious. Was wet sanding and being careful!

Nice fork surly fork thats had a disc mount put on by MV.
Ill get a picture later on -

Missed out on a Easton EC90X fork the other day, if so, it would have ended up being a nice build, would have been forced to buy Chris King headset, etc, etc ,etc...
No doubt just decimated the stems resale value but thats most of the clear coat and paint removed.
Got a lung full of carbon dust too no doubt.
