• Yes I did, though the SL6 is standard BB30 68mm, rather than the OSBB 61mm I have on my Sworks Venge.
Fit normal BB30 cranks with 3.5mm spacers each side.

The Allez Sprint that I had I think is the same BB30 arrangement as you, and it fit a Sram Red etap BB30 crankset very easily.

No creaking with either, with BB30 cranks, PF30 cranks, Wheels MFG shimano/gxp adapters installed.

Do you need to install the bearings yourself?

  • Fit normal BB30 cranks with 3.5mm spacers each side.

Thanks, this is what I wanted to hear. If I buy cranks second hand theres the likely ball ache of them not coming with the correct spacers if any. This puts my mind at rest.
Indeed my OSBB is effectively the same as bb30. BB30 = 68x42 mm.

I ran hollowgram on my caad10 and invested in a proper bearing press and installed the bearings my self. To my surprise there was absolutely no creaking on the caad10.

So I can install the bearings my self no problem. But I'll hold off as I'm still not sure exactly which crank system I'll end up with.
If I end up with bb30 cranks I wouldnt mind a threaded solution like this https://www.ceramicspeed.com/en/cycling/shop/bottom-brackets/bb30-for-sram-dub-road/
But ideally another cheaper brand rather than ceramicspeed.
Did you ever run the supplied ceramicspeed bb30 bearings that came with any of your frames? I'm not sure what I'd get on ebay for mine but I'm not convinced I should keep them.

  • Still got the ceramicspeed BB30 bearings that came with my frame. Just cleaned and added some more grease on occasion, good as gold.
Having said that, I don't put silly mileage into any of my bikes, so they haven't been ground to a paste at a grand tour or daily commute riding.

Loads of people I know have the Praxis threaded BB30 and rate them, but I don't think they do a threaded native BB30 bottom bracket? All their bottom brackets fit either their M30, or wider PF30/BB386, or shimano/GXP spindle widths as the bearings are positioned outside the shell.

So if you were going for Sram Red 11 speed BB30 cranks, you'd need to keep the Ceramicspeed bearings, if you had the Sram Red 11/Quarq PF30 detachable spider cranks you could go for the Praxis.

Also if you decide to go down the Hollogram cranks, you won't be able to use the Praxis.

The return to the threaded BB for the SL7 has been fascilitated by the likes of SRAM adopting DUB BBs, which allow all their new cranks to fit on BSA with the DUB threaded BB, and Shimano have always had threaded.
