  • I tried the route planner for the first time this weekend (from the dashboard). I found it fast and refined, compared to the PIA that is Strava route planner.

  • Going to send this back on the “45 day satisfaction guarantee” for a refund, now.

Perhaps should be more patient, but think a Bolt may be more for me at this moment.

  • never buy first gen tech

  • Lesson (potentially) learned!

  • Just done three 100km days in Snowdonia with the Karoo. Couple of niggles but generally very impressed. I think turn by turn has a way to go yet, but I only really use a line on the map, which is big enough to have zoomed quite far out and see what is coming up. Average speeds, max speed and altitude seemed pretty accurate.

On two rides (with just a hr monitor paired) the map and displays froze at about 79km in, but starting a new lap fixed that and the whole thing was still recorded.

On two days there was plenty of rain and the screen still responded well with gloves on.

  • How are people getting on with their units? Mines just turned up, haven’t had a chance to test it yet. I’ve also not been keeping up with the software updates, anything worth knowing?

  • I've used it twice. The first time I couldn't load the route I wanted to ride because the Hammerhead dashboard was down, and you can't load routes directly. The second I got the route loaded, but the routing engine crash and the map screen spent the whole ride saying 'Waiting for instructions'. Despite setting of with 65% battery charge, the battery died after 75km. So far, I'm decidedly underwhelmed. It's got a very nice screen, but other than that - and in particular in terms of its functionality overall - it's still distinctly inferior to all its major competitors.

  • Damn, let’s hope those kinks get ironed out soon.. they do at least seem to be releasing regular updates.

  • Any updates here?

  • Definitely still a work in progress, done lots of rides just following the line on the map which is how I like it anyway.

It currently freezes after 79km, but I’ve worked out a way to fix that and keep recording.

Def a work in progress, I wouldn’t buy one new at this stage but don’t regret my purchase.

  • I did 200km with Vector 3 pedals and a HR monitor connected, following a route but not using TBT. No crashes, battery was down to about 30% after 8hrs elapsed time.
HR, Distance and speed matched exactly with a Garmin 500 I was running as well.

  • Has anyone got a solution to the lack of sound or LED notifications on the Hammerhead Karoo?

I basically love the device for everything except TbT navigation whilst cycling, and it's down to missing junctions due to not getting signals.

I'm going to try again for the Dunwich Dynamo (hard to really screw it up as I'll follow red lights), but would like to find a solution.

Would a bluetooth speaker work? Does that make it make a noise?

  • Karoo for $199, fill your boots.

  • Vaguely considering it for $280

  • What was the cost per use for your Xoss?

  • Well, it was £119 and It lasted for about 15% of a 25km ride.

  • Paid the deposit. I'll decide when some reviews are out.

  • in awe at the size of this lad. absolute unit

  • Every time someone bumps this thread i'm like

  • New unit looks legit.

Gonna miss the iPad mini sitting on my Garmin mount
