  • Right, I have a really weird one. Well it's weird to me.
Have been having problems with our internet with SSE cutting out regularly, usually just turning wifi on and off on or MBPs sorts it, but now with working from home and interrupting meetings etc it's a big issue. It's a 3 bed maisonette so nothing is far from the router.

Provider has acknowledged excessive interruptions of the internet connection getting to our router. Had an engineer out who fixed a small thing but said it wouldn't explain dropouts, so they sent us a new Technicolor DWA0120 router. It's still happening although in the last call I had, SSE said the connection has been solid.

I just tried to use Wi-fi Sweetspots app to see if there were better places to put the router and it appears to actually cause the wifi to cut out. I press start and it gives readings, but then drops to 0Mbps and the chrome connection monitor I have pings to show no internet connection. This happens over and over but stops when I stop the app.

What the hell is going on?

  • Have you tried using it with a wired connection to the router. Ruling out the whole connection dropping out is always the best place to start.

  • Just did that. With my MBP plugged in, the ios app is still showing regular drops, but the cabled signal is fine. I have a QNAP NAS about 1m away from the router but that's all the electrical things near it.
