Is this a crack in my carbon?

Posted on
  • Just bought a 'new' carbon C60 Dura-ace front wheel

Out of the box their appears to be line under the lacher in V-shape running through both sides of the rim.

Is this a standard join part of the Carbon build process or somthing sinister I need to return?

  • I don't think so, the carbon on those is only a fairing right?

  • Correct, its an Alu rim for braking.

It could be a join from a single piece of composite but I was surprised it was done that way.

  • Totally normal. That's just how they're made. Can be seen on all images online as well. E.g.:

(At the bottom 'U' of the left wheel.)

  • Another example, from Shimano's C60 tubular wheels:

    (At the first 'A'.)

  • Thanks guys, had my LBS look at it today and the say the same.
    Normal manufacturing effect - whoop
