Correct, its an Alu rim for braking.
It could be a join from a single piece of composite but I was surprised it was done that way.

Totally normal. That's just how they're made. Can be seen on all images online as well. E.g.:

Normal manufacturing effect - whoop
Just bought a 'new' carbon C60 Dura-ace front wheel
Out of the box their appears to be line under the lacher in V-shape running through both sides of the rim.
Is this a standard join part of the Carbon build process or somthing sinister I need to return?
