Hi, has anyone tried charging their Legend Hcx using a small travel solar panel device? I'm thinking of getting a GPS device for my europe trip and already have a solar panel thing for my camera. Was wondering if anyone knows if it would work for the GPS too.

I am cycling from london to paris in the summer and want to track it on my android using endomondo. Same question as spokey-dokes, has anyone used solar chargers for their phones, any recomendations etc? I have done a 30 mile ride on my phone and it didnt run out of charge, could probably do another 10 miles but looking at going at least 60 miles a day and at a slower pace.
another option is a rechargable portable charging unit that I could charge up at each hostel we get to.

For a long tour, I've used Solar Gorilla/Power Gorilla for my phone+netbook+garmin.
Pretty big (didnt bother me as I was already loaded up with tent etc) and pricey, but effective!

Mate used his iphone on a previous trip to France to use Google maps a few times to bail us out of being lost in the middle of nowhere, he returned to a £70 data bill. So my next trip across France I took my android and used the MapDroyd app with pre loaded maps and was able to locate my position just using the GPS on the phone, i'd use a simple £20 solar charger from Maplin strapped to the top of my Carradice during the day to keep it topped up for when I needed it. I used a good old fashioned map for 95% of navigation but gps came in handy to figure out where you are in really rural areas and for milking Mcdonalds wifi to send emails etc :-)

.
I am only recently developing a sense of direction. I think I'll end up just getting a Bromley A-Z instead of spending money on something that doesn't necessarily work well enough to be useful.
I also could not get OSM to work. ??
