  • there are just those riders that always pop up as potential contenders in race previews but who very rarely seem to deliver - edvald boasson hagen and dan martin are the two who always stick in my mind. whenever someone touts either of them, I know I can safely disregard their chances of winning

  • I don't know what they were being touted to deliver but winning GT stages, classics and stage races seems like pretty good work at the pinnacle of the sport. Most people are happy to get a top 10 in their local chipper.

  • Its a shame for Edvald, because he's super strong, but theres nothing he can do that a handful of others can do better.
Outsprinted by the pure sprinters (which is why I think he goes early everything for a long sprint), outclimbed by the sprinter finishers (like Sagan).

He should have got himself in all the breakaways I think, though he's too strong in the sprint for anyone in the breakaway to work with him.

  • Boasson Hagen is the fifth most successful rider currently active in terms of victories, behind just Greipel, Cavendish, Valverde and Sagan.

I think you do him a disservice.

  • People seem to forget that Dan Martin has won 2 monuments, and without his bad luck, he would have won more stages/better GC results.

He would have won more, but Valverde just wouldn't retire.

  • dan martin

    Hey?!
