@dan usually programming fixed it, if not a new unit. We used to find some phones paired to it would corrupt them so try un-pairing any phones and see if it improves
Yeah. 2012 F30 328i here, bought new and the idrive screen used to go blank then show 'no signal' in orange letters on a black screen. This would happen when making a short journey, say to the shops and then returning to the car fairly soon ie within 15 minutes. idrive would stick at the 'no signal' screen sometimes for hours but sometimes just a few minutes.
The dealer of course claimed they had never seen this, from memory various things were replaced under warranty to try fix it, nothing worked. Then eventually a software update of some sort was issued.
This update didnt actually 'fix' the issue but rather it mean that when the 'no signal' screen did show up, the idrive and screen would reboot its self after a few seconds. Its still like that to this day.
Theres other folk on the various bmw forums with the same issue.
edit - I meant to mention that before and after the software update, the idrive has occasionally got stuck in a loop of rebooting. But I found that switching engine off, getting out, locking the car and waiting a moment then getting back in and starting the engine would usually fix it. But that didnt always fix it. Only once I think did I ever drive any considerable distance with it stuck in a reboot loop
