  • ^ The quick release is a cylindrical button at the top of the brake lever - check that you've not got it pressed out.

  • as he said

  • Ah yes the button on the side? I just read that in the manual yep.

  • The top silver round thing

  • Solved. I am a fool. Thank you. I saw the button but didn't realise it went through the lever to the other side. Now that it's fixed I can fully appreciate the difference with the last new group set I tried (with Shimano 105 R7020 levers), where when I pulled them to brake they were so squishy and had no reach adjustment so I was just pulling the levers into my fingers. Maybe I was screwing up somewhere there too, but it arrived like that brand new. These feel much better.

  • Hollowgram si cranks on a non cannondale frame - yay or nay?

I have a new frame coming, Specialized with osbb. I was going to sell my bb30 hollowgrams and potentially go with something else.

But I've realised I can have the arms re-anodised into a colour that might suit the frame and avoid having to buy new cranks.

I have two of the spacer kits so getting the cranks installed and spaced correctly shouldnt be too hard. Would I be best installing the cranks as if its a cannondale frame as per the instructions here https://www.cannondale.com/-/media/files/manual-uploads/manuals/SISL2_Road_Crankset_Instr_1012.pdf

Anyone done this? Any issues to look out for? new frame is an sl6 tarmac

edit - can anyone recommend a place in uk that could do custom lazer etching to have the logos put back?

  • Does anyone have an email address for some sort of customer support? I have one of those recalled CAADX forks and might as well try to get it replaced before I throw/give it away.

  • But I've realised I can have the arms re-anodised into a colour that might suit the frame and avoid having to buy new cranks.

Be careful as the process to remove the current anodising may affect the bonding of the crank arms. Few threads about this on WW etc.

  • Aye I seen this thanks! There seems to be a good few examples of hollowgrams arms being re-anodised online though. Few folk on WW have done it without issue I think.

Although I am basically assuming it will be ok simply because I read someone on a forum say "it will be fine" - what could possibly go wrong...
I'll be talking more to the folk who will do the anodising, if they are cool with it then I'll take a punt.

I guess theres potential to get them back and realise they look shit on the frame and then have to try sell the arms on in an undesirable colour

  • Why not go purple and get some off a slate? :)

  • Ha! I didnt know they came in colours factory spec.
I was actually thinking about purple, but not quite as bright as those on the slate.

Thinking a dark purple/deep blue like this

  • Si hollowgram cranks are hollow forged I thought - not bonded halves like the Si SL.

  • IS OSBB 68mm wide? If so install them in the same way they'd go in to a CAAD10, which is basically a large 5mm hat looking spacer on the NDS assuming you have the 109mm axle.

  • Confusingly specialised us the OSBB term to name pretty much all of their bb's
    But it is 68mm wide.

All of this has reminded me that I had to use a non standard spacer set up on my caad10 to get a good chainline and for the arm to sufficiently clear the etap front mech. I imagine this ball ache will happen on the new frame...

Just looked at my arms, I think you're right. Dont see any of bonding lines that can be seen on the sisl canks

  • Kapz do custom laser etched headset caps, could be worth asking them.

  • Kapz

Oh thats a great shout. I'll message them thanks

  • Si hollowgram cranks are hollow forged I thought

    that's the SI sans hollowgram

  • Nah they are just solid lumps of alu.

The modern Hollowgram Si starts life as a tube that's then worked in to a crank like shape that is then machined. It has no clamshell, no bond. The old OG BB30 Si crank was a clamshell design but nobody uses those now, they've probably all snapped / split. The modern SiSL and SiSL2 are clamshells but Cannondale hardly make / spec them now.

  • My CAAD3 all buttoned up, waiting for the pedals.

And a smattering of Enve from eBay sorting the contact points.

Obligatory thanks again to @rob_g_clarkson for being too small for this frame too. For which I'm very grateful 😉
