Aye, big fan of improve it if you can!

Fresh webbing for sure, that bits a bit knackered. Love the cord attachment on the frame bag - might not be rigid enough for a wobbly seat pack

Appreciate the advice, good luck with getting those bags out. I'll see what my local cobbler can do.

Never done anything like this before but tried my hand at making a bar bag a couple weeks back: turned out pretty well if I may say so myself!
Thoughts? Happy to fill people in on the construction if they’d like to give it a go.

Liking the ‘life-raft’ aesthetic!

Did a framebag, what a nightmare. Main takeaway is that the template needs to be undersized, there are some very shoddy post-assembly alterations to make it fit. Next one should be far better, but will focus on things that are more fun to make for a while.

Looks nice though! Good to know about undersizing the pattern. How much would you say needs to be removed?

I’m going to try a cm from both the seat tube and top tube, but I’m not quite sure. I am sure @Harry.Major has ideas about this but they’re likely to be considered trade secrets.

Ha! Framebags are hard no two ways about it
From the photo, the bag looks like it first perfectly though!? And it looks damned smart! You defo shouldn't need to undersize your template. How does your bag compare to your template? Is it spot or a little bigger?

Yeah I fixed it by taking it in at the downtube seams, but taking a good look it must have been bigger than the template before doing so. Seems most of the gains are to be made in accurately sticking to the template which sounds stupidly obvious now I type it out, thanks for the insight!

My framebag advice (having made a grand total of one) would be not to make it too wide, i find mine bows out a bit and i get a bit of rub against the chainring occasionally.

Could you add internal velcro or rubber straps that pulls the sides in?

I do have a partition which helps a bit, but it's just that bit too wide.
I'd like to make another but they are a load of effort, so I will see how long mine lasts

Could add some tabs on the inside quite easily, and a strap that you tighten up when you pack? Bit of a faff I admit, but might be a solution without too much hassle

Chunky D rings - I need some to fit 50mm webbing through. Bought some off ebay but they are pretty spindly and thin.
Any leads on some fatter ones?

Metal or plastic? If metal get welded ones not the split type, trust me on that.
Not used these guys but they have a selection - http://www.webfittings.co.uk/epages/62030035.mobile/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62030035/Categories/%22D%20Rings%22/dr50
Used these guys through ebay, their stuff is fine - https://www.handystraps.co.uk/categories/webbing-buckles/buckles/
There are nice round chunky plastic ones in my parts drawer, but I can’t remember what brand they were. Will try look up later.

Metal ones
Handy Straps say that their 50mm d rings are made with 6mm wire. Which sounds much better than what I have.
Cheers

Just make sure they’re welded. I have a massive bag of ebay unwelded that are relatively thick, but if you wrench them tight like I did on the motorcycle bags, they deform over time. So now I have a big bag of 50mm’s that I’d not use for any serious or weighty applications.

Sewing a double layer of webbing with thicker thread isnt going too well.
Wider stitches helps a bit, what else?

Needle and thread properly matched? Tension good top and bottom?

No stress. Sold to someone up North somewhere back in ....April?
Bear in mind I have machines capable of stitching the materials with relative ease, but I made my bags from tarpaulin and a mix of 25mm and 32mm webbing.
There are probably photos around on my threads, but they were effectively @danb Levrier shaped shoulder bags, with straps placed specifically for attaching to the racks. I did that because I had the pattern and it was more than big enough for my bike, and I knew the design was weatherproof. Could have made other bags with more capacity, but I never needed more.
Be sure to place enough straps for the weight you’ll carry, and be aware of the excess and the buckles so they don’t interfere with the wheel, brakes, gears etc.

Thanks dude, I've only access access to a brother ls14s which I think only has a puny 50w motor, might struggle to get through webbing and tarp? Could I ask if you would be so kind to kock me up a set? I could give you measurements and pay ya.
I owe at least two people bags and it has been months, lots going on that has affected my actual making. If it weren’t for that, if I could guarantee a quick turnaround, I’d say just send to me.
On a patcher it’s a 5 minute job.
