  • How much copper pipe did they replace?

  • I was going to say that seems extortionate for copper line

  • A few years ago I owned a 1994 Ford GalaxY which I bought for £400. Not quite as nice.

  • Looks like a Vanquish. 6 litre V12, no turbos to quieten things down.

  • Pah I bought a mot failure quite rusty galaxy for £100, for the engine VR6 engine....that decided to snap the camchain 1000miles I sold the engine that had sat for 18months out of the car as I was looking for a corrado VR6 with a knackered engine.

  • There was also a 100lb of yeast....

  • I had the starter motor replaced on my 130i and when I picked it up the power steering was making a right racket even at straight ahead, slight steering input made the noise dreadful. The workshop manager just said it seemed to be a coincidence, he wouldn’t be able to look at it for over a week and basically shooed me away. I’m open minded to the unlikely possibility that it was a coincidence but being given the F-O has pissed me off. Unsure about pursuing it as I’m unlikely to get anything other than very pissed off. Cunts.

  • Was it making a noise before?

  • No nada, not even at full lock.

  • Sounds like they've fucked the belt tension somehow

  • @lynx @mcmyk there's about 3 hours of labour in that invoice, not sure why they have booked it that way, prob some sort of scam

  • So they have fucked something and won't admit it.

    Good luck.

  • Was just a comment as I was wondering what pipes had been replaced.

  • Thank you. I’ll look it up and see if it’s something I could tackle myself.

  • I did wonder if that was the case, does seem strange they've not booked the labour out as an itemised value at a rate

  • Not really, but how much were you thinking?

  • @mcmyk weird isn't it. I think it some weird scam they are pulling as thinking about it, they told me the figure and I paid, THEN he said "do you want the paper receipt", and I never even looked at it until I got back to the cottage. Usually they give you the invoice first

@lynx I had a big hole in a brake pipe

  • Any BMW owners out there who've had an idrive unit which gets stuck in a cycle of rebooting itself?

Yeah. 2012 F30 328i here, bought new and the idrive screen used to go blank then show 'no signal' in orange letters on a black screen. This would happen when making a short journey, say to the shops and then returning to the car fairly soon ie within 15 minutes. idrive would stick at the 'no signal' screen sometimes for hours but sometimes just a few minutes.

The dealer of course claimed they had never seen this, from memory various things were replaced under warranty to try fix it, nothing worked. Then eventually a software update of some sort was issued.
This update didnt actually 'fix' the issue but rather it mean that when the 'no signal' screen did show up, the idrive and screen would reboot its self after a few seconds. Its still like that to this day.
Theres other folk on the various bmw forums with the same issue.

edit - I meant to mention that before and after the software update, the idrive has occasionally got stuck in a loop of rebooting. But I found that switching engine off, getting out, locking the car and waiting a moment then getting back in and starting the engine would usually fix it. But that didnt always fix it. Only once I think did I ever drive any considerable distance with it stuck in a reboot loop

  • Our Chunnel tickets home are for the 31st, what’s the optimal strategy for getting to the terminal from Switzerland without stopping in France and therefore needing to quarantine when we get home?

I was thinking of Morgins to Aachen, stay overnight, then Aachen to Coquelles the next day. Is there a better strategy?

  • In such a motor as yours there is only one legitimate answer no?

  • Looking for 3k, which is pretty good value for one that's just rolled onto 70k miles, fsh, etc

  • Are you not breathing in thick French Covid air as you drive through? 🤔

  • I’ll hit “re-circulate” at the Swiss/French border, and again at the German/Belgium border.

  • You need to quarantine.
