3/32” Chain and 11 Speed Chainring

  • Hi all

This may be a stupid question so I apologise in advance, can you use a 3/32” chain for a single speed setup with an 1x (usually 11 speed setup) chainring up front? Specifically a Sram Force X-Sync

    Thanks

  • Yes, it’ll be fine.

  • Hi, im new af ive got a wolftooth 38t chainring, im assuming that is fine to use for a fixed gear bike then?

I assumed that the tooth count would be too small as people always seem to use 46, 48 tooth (i think) from what ive seen

  • It'll be fine, but the drive train will wear quicker, make sure you're checking the chain regularly.

  • Hi, I appreciate the answer, thank you. Is that simply because the chain is thinner?

  • Im using an aluminium 39t chairing on my current fixed setup. If you're riding it fixed then keep an eye on the wear on the teeth, the aluminium can wear away pretty quickly.

  • Ah right, thanks. You got any photos of your setup? Cheers

  • Not to hand but I can take some shots in the daylight tomorrow. I should probably mention that it's not the same setup as what you're aiming for, it's a 1/8 chain on a 3/32 chainring (39t shimano 10sp ultegra) with a 1/8 sprocket.
Just mentioned as I went from a steel to aluminium ring and it's wearing pretty fast while I'm using it fixed.
