a brown sunbeam stilletto with black vinyl roof was almost my first car, it sat down a lane near where i lived for many years gradually rusting and decaying, eventually the council towed it away to the scrappers, i used to go and look at that car once a week during my 15's 16's 17's ( mid - late 80's ) dreaming of leaving a note on the windshield asking for the owner to name a price, it would have been a lot of work , too much for a hamfisted spotty teen
it was just such a lovely car nice details, i guess my love of them came from the first two cars i ever remember driving in with my family 2 x hillman imps in the early 70's , trips to italy 5 up fully loaded when i was very small were an adventure especially in the snow the porsche style engine layout gave it grip in slippy condition
still look at them on the internet, there are so few left sadly, some racy ones look superb, even better with a rover v8 where the back seats are

Mercedes with a parking brake that doesn't work. Standard.
My MoT guy just used to say "you never use the parking brake anyway, right?" and then pass it.
-

I never use it, just leave it in Park, so it doesn’t matter to me.

^you've only done half the job there, you've driven it to the woods, now you need to finish the job and set that monstrosity on fire.

Any reason not to use the handbrake with an auto, other than park doing the same thing?
-
• #56734
Harsh. He's only 4. He will be a monster tho!

• #56735
yeah obviously live by a RR fanboi for sure

I thought it's good to use the handbrake? Isn't the park on an auto just a ring gear? That's a lot of pressure for it to take, should the car be on an incline.
-
• #56737
That's always what I thought.
-
• #56738
Quite possibly so, but putting it in Park is so easy.
-
• #56739
Well you can't leave it in drive.
What type of handbrake do you have? Is it an old fashioned lever one?
-
• #56740
Nah, foot pedal, with a release handle under the dash that you pull.
-
• #56741
Yeah those are annoying and not as intuitive / natural.
Still I guess it stops you pulling handy-Bs.

There’s a classic ratcheted lever hand brake in my auto - was a bit surprised to see it there tbh but it does mean I use it out of habit.

First time I ever drove a pick up for work, I got very confused about the T-handle, straight pull hand brake. Coming out of a field onto a A road in Kent, I couldn't work out how to release it in time and stalled across both lanes. Happy with my instinct of just switching on the flashing amber light on the roof and sitting there while I worked it out.

Just secured a stupendous deal for the R53.
One year old Milltek exhaust system including manifold and hi-flow cat, rear wheel arch trim and pair of front seatbelts for £370!
Can't wait to get this lot fitted.
Also just hit 160,000km so supercharger service and water pump replacement is due and I'll replace the supercharger pulley with a 17% reduced lightweight one and an eBay intercooler with diverter.
Should be looking at 200bhp+ after all is done!

Haha, he is looking at the car like 'soon...' maybe it will be him that ends up torching it ;)
And I saw the version prior to the Ford Galaxie I posted back on page 2129 which was a 1969 one. I prefer the looks of this one, which is a 1964. Proper badass looking car, and I love those rear lights, they look like the rocket thing at the back of the original TV series Batmobile.

Parked next to this tonight at work, actually made me jump when I heard him start it up previously, proper hooligan car. Don't know what it is past an Austin Martin but know I'll never be able to afford one!

Townace. Look at the Nissan elgrand. Mate bought a recent jap import that has coil overs and silly rubber band tyres on split rims. But the interior and the spec is amazing.
