  • The human nose is pretty sensitive to mal odours,
    but,
    as all parents will remember has some sort of overload facility
    so that stuff that won't kill you can be dealt with.
    I freely admit that the glorious smell of durian, described as rotten onions with a hint of sewage,
    is gaggingly powerful, but take a deep breath, overload the receptors,
    and enjoy the texture and other flavours lurking behind the rotten onions.

    (Also once had 'raw' durian, more white than the orangey/yellow.
    You could see the individual layers of material.
    Hardly smelt, no flavours at all. Don't bother, no use as a lead in
    to the ripe stuff).

    "Onions and antibiotics" was the description that I heard. It's the only time I've seen an adult pull the same face as a baby being given its first spoonful of pureed carrot.
