Looking at monitor + soundbar at the moment. I thought the remote on an Apple TV would sort out the volume? Or the soundbar will have a remote?
I assumed he was being deliberately obtuse

Generally the tv picture part will last much longer than the smart part so I'd pick based on picture quality and add a fire stick or whatever interface you prefer.
Assuming you want a decent size a good monitor costs more than a good tv and doesn't have a remote or speakers (although most tv speakers are a bit crap).
You can often get pretty good deals on last year's models.

I was not. Did not see any mention of soundbar and I like to have a few inputs for other stuff like a Chromecast or video game.
Also TVs are usually cheaper than big monitors. -

The volume buttons on the Apple TV either send an infrared signal to your TV like a universal remote, or do some HDMI trickery to control the TV's volume control via the Apple TV. What they don't do is change the output volume of the Apple TV itself.

How much and for how long would you have to drink water for you to piss non stop

If i wanted to stick a bit of foam on my phone case over the mic hole to try and cut down wind noise, is there any material in particular i should look for?
-
• #104058
Some type of open cell foam as opposed to closed cell. That would probably cut it down too much.

piss non stop
The low end of normal flow is 10 ml.s-1
Kidneys can process about 1 litre per hour which is 0.28 ml.s-1
Based on that, the upper limit of pissing is a duty cycle of about 1/36, i.e. 100 seconds per hourIf you want a Trump-in-Moscow style party, you probably want about 50 volunteers to be confident of getting a continuous shower.

Also you would probably die from hyponatremia unless you added salts to your water

Obviously I considered this, but I wondered whether you might die from explosion first if you actually tried to pump fluids, electrolyte balanced or not, into your body at a rate of 36 litres per hour for much more than a quarter of an hour ⌚💥🌊

We did Smart Box + Dumb TV for years. Years ago the Smart was a home built HTPC, more recently Virgin Tivo, ATV, Firestick, Youview...
We finally replaced the TV this year with an LG Smart TV and it's way way less faff. So much so I got another LG for the bedroom and ditched those boxes as well.
We've kept the Youview box for recording live TV (don't ask me why, husband wants it) but otherwise the TV does it all - we use it for Netflix, Amazon, Now, Plex and Youtube...
Mind, the stuff we watch is mostly old anyway so picture quality isn't a thing - only so much a TV can do to Sapphire and Steel !

Makes it easier to FFWD through the adverts, on channels with adverts. That's why I do it, anyway.

Not sure of the validity of this, but I was told my grandmother had cancer in the 50’s and had to take radiation pills. I believe she then had to have them flushed out of her, to do this they essentially put a hose pipe into her mouth and left her there for two days. Not sure how true, but I was told this many times as a child.

Does anyone know what sort of pinch bolt is supposed to be used with this collar? Because it has no recess I could use any old bolt but what’s the neat ‘correct’ solution? The hole is 5.8mm with new powdercoat everywhere so presumably really 6mm.

possibly supposed to take a quick release lever like this?
https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/seat-posts/kalloy-steel-qr-seat-bolt-silver-m6-x-55mm/
but if you don't want QR then look at something like this;

I don't know about correct, but neat would be a button head screw (Torx ideally, but Allen key if you must) into a Nylock nut. That gets you nice rounded no-snag surfaces both ends as long as the screw doesn't project past the nut.

Thanks. Yeah I figured the QR, not seen the other kind. Annoyingly I bought a QR one already, it’s an ffin M8. :(
-
• #104069
Yep, that’s the homestyle solution.
Think I’m going QR as it’s for a stoker seat which may need to be adjusted for various users.

Related, my seat clamp is shit and when I upgrade it I'd like to switch between QR and hex bolt on a whim (e.g. hex bolt around town, QR offroad). Looks like the Hope seatclamp might do this, can anyone confirm?

Procrastinating and idly wondered what you could use to cover a router to make it less ugly, but without interfering with the signal too much.
I assume plastic with large holes in it would be the least bad, but what about speaker cloth and a wood or metal frame? Any metals that are worse than others?
All internet searching leads me back to building materials. For good reasons probably.

Here's a collection I just found for you: https://www.pinterest.com/kassienorton/hide-modem-router/
I usually chuck it in a plastic box behind the TV unit or whatever. Signal not great.

All common metals are essentially equal when it comes to shielding RF and should be avoided completely. Even fasteners will act as parasitic directors since they will be close in length to the ½λ of the transmitter.
Wood is much worse than either cloth or fibreglass (it's used for RADAR domes for a reason), both of which create negligible attenuation in the 2.4GHz and 5Ghz bands of interest. -

So the only question that remains now is: doily or tea cosy?

This?

@Howard Yup, this was sort of the thinking. Monitors last for years and I can upgrade the ATV as needed.
Currently, trying to figure out how to mount a soundbar on a monitor which doesn’t appear to have any mounting holes?
