• Absolutely retape those bad boys. I can’t think of a world in which sealant should reach spoke holes!

  • Unusual though, I’ve had some new pre-taped DT Swiss wheels that sealed up perfectly without needing sealant. And some Reynolds wheels.

  • If DT wheels are hand built -which I suspect they are - tape is probably a hand applied thing. Human error 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Tubeless dark arts!

  • Dynaplug racer worked perfectly the first time I’ve had to use it. Miserable day in the rain on the return leg of a cycle down to Brighton and it sealed the hole when the sealant wasn’t cutting it. Had nothing to cut the tail with me so squished it into the tyre and it was all gone before i got home

  • Be careful. I've done that too and the hole then just re-appeared as the plug had been swallowed into the whole tyre. You may want to boot it.

  • Will keep an eye out. Tyres may be on the way out as the back (with the plug) has other cuts all over and the front lost pressure when riding yesterday and then spurted a bit of sealant at home this afternoon a couple of hours after being pumped up. Sealant seems to be holding it again now though. Only fitted the tyres in June.

  • Has anyone burped a road TL tyre today? Think I did it today, turned in sharp on a flat corner and the tyred folded over a little and dropped to about 10psi. Perhaps 45psi was a bit low.

  • No but it is a bit of a concern with my bodged setup.
    I just stay around 60...

  • Not burped but definitely almost had an off on the Kinesis with a sharper than expected turn, leaning hard into it and the tyre just went 'womp' and folded and I almost binned it due to the sudden change of angle, etc. That was 'accidentally' running 47mm Horizons at < 20psi though.

  • Has anyone converted clinchers to tubeless? I have a some H+Son TB14 that i'd like to try to convert.

  • Fucking read the fucking first fucking post:
"Don’t fuck around with ghetto tubeless for road bikes"

  • Ok without trolling through all the pages while watching my tyre jizz gray stuff over the lino. Whats the best tyre patch that actually sticks to the inside of a tyre and will not fall off?

  • without trolling through all the pages

You only have to go back a couple of pages

  • Indeed ! Did yours work?

  • No, I just remembered the patch chat and knew roughly where it was.

  • Mine worked and we’ve done around 10 customer repairs with them with no return so far. Seems legit. Given my luck lately back tyre will be flat in the morning.

Any recommendations for tough, fast ish and slightly knobby tubeless tyres? Beginning to think road tubless is a bit shit.

  • G-one all rounds have served me brilliantly for thousands of km - currently running the addix compound tan wall jobs

  • I ran the 38s at 25 psi on flint trails which did start to damage the rim and sidewall, but I left the wheels sitting horizontal each side for a while and they’re still going strong at nearly 4000km on the current set

  • Well I’ve had 2 cuts in 2 weeks that wouldn’t seal with the exact tyre - maybe there is less smashed glass round your way.

  • Maybe less glass (though a fair bit of car window glass about lately) but probably more smashed up flint (lots of West Sussex South Downs Way and related lanes). I’ve had issues with cuts in the past, in fact my first 5km on G-Ones resulted in a tyre going in the bin. Just bad luck I think

  • Fill the tire with Stan's race. Works on my shredded gravel kings.

  • Question for the hivemind: has this had it? Cut/tear goes a good mm or so through the tread, maybe down to the casing. If it was tubed I would happily boot it in the event of failure but seems like asking for trouble tubeless. Am I being overly cautious? Just carry a tube and a boot?

Context: Continental gp5000 which has been on just over a week. They have been a marked improvement over the Schwalbe pro ones they replaced in terms of comfort. I weigh about 80kg and have run this at about 70psi. And yes, I have been riding stupid #nogravel type stuff on my fancy new road bike tyres, so it is completely my own fault.

  • What is with the gp5000 road tubeless hype in this thread?

Tubeless on skinny tyres for the road just seems like madness.

That tyre will be fucked in a couple of rides I reckon.
