• I did the exact same thing with my Hamilton Khaki. Crown open in a tupperware thing full of rice, covering the watch head with rice as well. Left it for a few days, solved the issue. I didn't service it afterwards.

  • Even if your watch worked fine after this, the various different lubes on the parts will have lost some of their properties so its likely that it'll increase moving part wear over time. This is why a service is recommended. Or at least that is what I learned on the watch repair courses I did. No idea if true or not.

  • Oh for sure, didn't mean to try dissuade away from that point. A mixture of laziness and lack of investment in that particular watch meant I didn't follow through with it.
