  • Built a back wheel this morning..
The hub is Deore & the rim is Ritchey OCR Disc - leftovers from my aborted Commencal build.
I've got the other rim and a Ritchey front hub knocking around somewhere so I'll need to raid the shed and find them!

  • I ordered some Disc bits to set up the brakes, properly out of my mechanical comfort zone ...
from what I read on the internet you have a smaller disc At the back - I found what looked like 140mm in the shed that I’d been using as a drill jig for disc-cogs so I decided to go 140mm rear & 160mm front

  • Frame & forks have IS tabs but the elixir brakes are post mount so I got some adaptors.
I fitted the Adaptors to the frame and offered the calipers up to them and discovered a couple of problems

  • 1) the banjo where the hose enters the caliper is on the inside which seems weird as it’s very close to the spokes - is that normal or should it be on the outside?
    2) the caliper clashes slightly with the adaptor, I was thinking of putting a couple of spacers between the post mount and caliper, is that normal?

  • Cool project.

Nice to see an old shot of Bath skate park when there was still the Rareunit ramps. Went past for the first time in over 20 years recently and it's pretty different these days!

  • Yes I passed it in the car a couple of years back, it’s all concrete and looks pretty impressive. Happy memories of the old days tho

  • Sunn were great brand as well and their bikes always looked right. The BMiX was another bike I've lusted after since then.

  • Yes - one of my cousins had a Tox - a great looking XC bike - chrome with super skinny tubes but the BMiX is just the raddest

  • putting a couple of spacers between the post mount and caliper, is that normal?

I've had to do this a few times. A few washers here and there.

  • Cool thanks, by the look of it, I’ll be needing 4-5mm

  • Sure you've got the right adapter and it's the right way around? 5 mm is a lot.

  • I did a search for Elixir 7 on IS tabs and found this

These washers look like the ones you get on V-brake pads

    Also, from the manual :

  • Same review also shows how close the banjo gets to the spokes

  • Now that I've found the manual, I checked the bracket type
(some might argue this would have been a wiser place to start).
It appears (more by luck than judgement) that I have the correct brackets

  • Maybe it's an avid thing, BB7s have v-brake washers like that. I've mostly used shimano stuff so didn't think of that. Hope you manage get them sorted now!

  • Sorted

  • Long is the way and hard, that out of Hell leads up to light.

  • Inspiring, thanks.
Milton is precisely what this build needs....

  • Last night i built the front wheel with the ocr pro rim but like a fuckwit I didn’t think it through and had the rim offset on the same side as the rear wheel with the spoke holes on toward the nds so drive side spokes are the same length as nds

  • On the front However, spoke holes on there nds with equal spike length doubles the amount of dish required rather than cancelling it out...

  • Also the rear brake hose is insanely long so I’m going to have to read up on how to fix that... the project continues at glacial pace

Ha, looks ace. Thought you had some quite interesting gearing going on in that pic until I realised that was the bike behind it.

  • Or, y'know, leave it so you can barspin

[edit]front hose looks too short actually
