You would have to check with the authorities. Cars sold into the Japanese market often have a slightly different (usually better) spec and the insurers will use this as an excuse. Adrian Flux is normally the best bet.
I haven't imported a car in ages (FTO and GTO from Japan, brand new L200 from Cyprus), each time I saved thousands on UK prices. Japanese imports are almost always very low mileage.
Do check the underseal, this frequently doesn't exist.
