There's a product by RSP called Hyper Wiper for the wiper steals- pop it on, compress, wipe off the crap.
As for servicing you'll know when it needs doing, as it'll feel like it takes a bit more effort to get moving. As for the oil, if it isn't used for damping, get either 1 step lighter, or there's a product called Superglis that is commonly used by tuning workshops. I know that it's been pretty hot recently but it doesn't really get hot enough generally for your fork to need 30wt oil. Also Motorex is a damn sight cheaper than Rockshox or Fox's oils, and contains additives to prevent stick slip and cavitation.
Another thing to do when servicing the fork is to remove the ridiculous amount of grease in the air spring. There was a cm of grease on the top of the piston head, and no oil.
n00b mtb question; how do I make sure the forks stay in good condition? clean after every ride, dab and wipe off. the 3wt oil (for my fork)? What else?
