Has anyone got any recommendations for a reasonably priced 35mm point and shoot? My mju-ii has so many light leaks as to be unusable now and I can't afford to replace it like for like. Would ideally like something similar though!
Here's a few pictures I have taken semi-recently.

lovely shots. how about an olympus af-1? can usually be picked up for less than £40 and they look like they take pretty nice shots
the mju zooms look alright too, and are way cheaper than their prime lensed counterparts, if you don't mind the fact that it's a zoom

thanks a lot, those seem like good suggestions. I think I can probably stomach the mju zoom, just a shame the prices on the prime lens ones have become so inflated! Wish I'd bought a few more when they were only £30!

Obviously I don't know what it's like, but can't you replace the seals?

The leaks mainly come from the front unfortunately, and everything is so small inside the camera that i don't think there's any real way to take it all apart, work out where the leak is coming from and put it all back together again.

Fair enough - cheaper to buy a new one.

Another option that I settled on a while ago is a Canon 50mm 1.8 / any cheap Canon autofocus SLR body. Mine is an EOS 300. It's not really much bigger than a P&S but much more versatile IMO.
The body cost about a tenner and the lens was 75GBP or something. And the photos are so, so, so much nicer than anything that ever came out of my Mju-II.

Yeah this. I bought a mint EOS 300 for a friend yesterday. I paid £10!
She’ll get a 40 or 50 mm to fit. It came with a slow zoom lens.
It’s larger, but as easy to shoot as a compact camera and not heavy.

Fully agree with going the SLR route (especially if you've already got some Canon lenses kicking around), but I picked up a Mju ii recently for a fair price, and am amazed at how small it is considering some of the images it makes.

Yeah, I'll admit, some of my favourite photos came out of the Mju, but it was my only camera for a couple of years and I used it a lot. It helps that it would fit in a jersey pocket. I take my SLR a lot less places and I certainly don't take it out on the bike as much anymore, which is a shame because I have some great scenery where I live that would look great on film. Trying to change that though and I do have an SLR friendly handlebar bag....
But yeah, basically, if maximum portability isn't an issue, SLR body with a nice lens for a third of the price of a Mju-ii makes the most sense to me.

Mju I. Can be had for £30 still. Fuck getting a zoom and getting an slr isn’t as pocketable. It’s not the same at all IMO. You want a cheap camera that you’re not worried about and takes up as little space as possible, and that you just need to hit a button to shoot.
Obviously just my 2p.

I didn't say it was the same - merely an alternative, hence 'another option'. FWIW, I only ever use it on auto everything. It's incredibly easy. It is a point and shoot, just with a nice lens that's a little bit bigger.

Och wasn’t having a dig, totally think it’s a reasonable suggestion. Just not my bag.

Where are these £30 mju I? Could do with a spare before prices rockets even more.

I got mine on eBay, as have a couple of friends in the last 12 months. Might need to wait to get a deal, but they do pop up. I didn’t wait long for mine.

I have both actually mju I / II paid £10 for the mju I and less than £50 for the mju ii years ago. I think the most expensive camera I have was £60 for a bigmini 201.
Cheapest mju I I've seen was £70 on BIN a few days ago.
I do agree about an automatic slr something like a canon 300x and a 50mm.

People will chat shit for days about how little they pay for cult cameras. The best camera is the one you have with you; people take better photos with a mju ii bc they ALWAYS have it with them and shoot loads of rolls on them

FML £50 seems the absolute cheapest they’ve sold for recently.

Did i sell you the half frame? Lets see some pics! Shooting 72 frames is crazy. Feels like digital, especially with sharp films like ektar

Cheers all, lots to go on. I've got a Yashica FX-3 which is pretty small for an SLR but yeah with a 50mm lens it's still not exactly pocketable. Will be keeping a close eye on ebay!

anyway to get things back on track here's a few (not recent at all) photos

If you want really cheap the ricoh ff9 is sharp, good colour rendition and can still be had for under 20. The smaller metal bodied Pentax espios are really nice 120sw and ew particularly ,a bit of vignetting and slower lenses but make nice images. Olympus af-1 twin less inflated prices and generally appreciated. As a rule of thumb for electronic cameras, only spend as much as youre willing to loose, had a few die on me in the past. The popular ones are only going to be had at reasonable prices at a carboot or charity shop if your lucky! Attached some pictures taken on said cameras...
