  • The OBR (IIRC) is basing all its forecasts on getting a decent deal with the EU.

  • My vision for next time round also involves doing as much as I can myself or doing a @chrisbmx116 and getting a building architect. Our builder and architect falling out was not helpful.

  • 18 bed house

No idea of the area so wonder what all the rooms are for? Agricultural worker? Or if it's just off a motorway a brothel maybe?

  • you know he copied me right?

  • Any recommendations for solicitor in South London for selling?

  • Kinda what I'm doing this time around too.

  • Would also like info on good south london solicitors as we’re looking to put our place on the market end of this year.

  • They don't need to be local to you for selling. It's possibly helpful when buying if you are buying something exotic.

It can make it more convenient for things that require physical documentation exchange as posting stuff securely is a ball ache. But you will pay £200-£300 extra for the privilege of using a London based conveyancer.

  • Hmmm, maybe some sellers have been watching the news because one of my offers was accepted

  • Woooo

    West or East

  • Yes, I did pretty much the whole thing with scans. Think I posted a couple of documents in total and they weren't so sensitive that they couldn't just go in first class post.

Saying that, I discovered recently that he is actually based about 15 minutes from me.

  • Just had value of our flat confirmed. Though dexters want 1.75% as a minimum. Seemed confident enough of selling it though. Wants us to get it on the market for September, wasn’t going to until November when we can get a new mortgage in principle..

  • What have I missed news wise? I try and avoid it usually...

  • Recession, virus, murder-hornets (again)

  • If you want to use them, go back and say we'd like to use you but we can pay 1.2% including VAT. They agree, you save ££££s

  • Either cheap accommodation for factory workers or something like a DSS hostel (are they still a thing) would be my guess.

It's not a good area but it's not a bad area.

  • Ahhhh wondered why Oxford st was a bit quiet.

  • it won't kill you but the tedium of having to make lots and lots of decisions about things you might not necessarily care about (when pitched against your wider vision) could put you into a stultifying torpor. especially when you've not unlocked the infinite money cheat and so you're making choices which will either have compromises or necessitate compromises elsewhere. you need to figure out the hard line on where/what you will compromise. there will be things you just don't care about either, but which are super important, and so you kinda need to learn to care

we'd just finished our place before lock-down thankfully (bought aug-18, process kicked off shortly thereafter, completed feb-20) - it's great now but, god, those 18 months were a slog

  • it's no cheap either

  • there will be things you just don't care about either, but which are super important, and so you kinda need to learn to care

Out of curiosity what are the one or two top items this happened to you with?

  • roof was a big one. I know that seems like pretty fundamental but I honestly just couldn't motivate myself to care about what type of roof we got on the new mass by the end of the decision-making process. it was pretty complicated too trying to weigh aesthetics / life of the product / cost / sympathy of aspect to old mass etc by the time we got to the decision point, I was pretty happy to just go with one of the two/three that our architect suggested. I was so fatigued by trying to weight up all the pros and cons, just had to draw a line under it. happy enough with the end product now though, thankfully

there were other smaller things that I would ordinarily have 'agonised' over, had they been part of a smaller/one-room renovations (like radiators, or kitchen handles) that I ultimately just waved through too
