  • The original B5 RS4 is the one.

I'm over fast cars tho. Vans all the way from here until i win the lottery, then I'll buy a G Waggon 6 wheeler for the LOLZ.

  • I've been speeding in the middle lane and still getting undertaken. I'm not pulling in to the left lane just so some pillock doing 120 doesn't have to undertake then swerve back into lane.

I'm also an Audi driver, I think having a nearly 30 year old one makes you feel like the frequent Audi driver bashing isn't directed at you!

  • Road captain worthy sentiments.. If you're being undertaken you're in the wrong lane!

  • While I generally agree, I don't think being in middle lane while moving past cars on left is being in wrong lane just because someone else is weaving through gaps more aggressively...

  • You're right.

Re the current 5 series, I have to disagree on the styling, to me it looks unresolved and bitty. Saying that, if one needed a car to do 30,000 motorway miles a year, a 530d would be just the ticket (with comfort seats).

  • Undertaking is an offence, as is driving in the wrong lane and obstructing traffic. I see too much undertaking whilst I wait for people to move into the correct lane. This weeks notable occurrence involved a female in an AMG Merc and a 5 series BMW - apparently racing in quite heavy traffic. Undertaking at around 90mph - so it’s not all Audi drivers.

  • This exactly. Fast estates should be almost sleeper-esque.

  • The original B5 RS4 is the one

Ooh, yes. We really have lost the art of subtlety. Like the E39 M5 or an older AMG. What was that phrase journos always use? Iron fist in a velvet glove?

  • I wonder if this is how Renault Sport got their livery?

    In which case.

    Many royalties owed to Kodak?

  • I thought undertaking wasn't technically illegal? unless it counts as careless driving? Obviously a dick move either way.

  • The Nurburgring sticker is a virtual guarantee that the twat will drive as if he (it's always he) is there at all times.

  • I drove to the airport recently and passed at least a dozen cars on the left. Sat just over the limit in the 'slow' lane most of the way.

  • Not technically undertaking.

  • I wasn't driving a hearse

  • Sitting in the middle lane for no apparent reason seems to be a very British thing. You don't see it in other European countries anywhere near as frequently. Maybe it's because drivers on the mainland absolutely love a brutal tailgate.

  • That would contravene some ancient bylaw about ‘driving livestock along the highway’.

  • I was taught that motorways are single lane roads with two overtaking lanes.
If you’re not passing something, move back over to the left.
This was not a common teaching it seems for the Brits

  • Hey my National Trust sticker has same kudos biatch.

  • Spotted this last year, thought it was a good spin

  • Other than a erie section of the M40 when I used to visit my grandparents and early morning journeys back from raves I can't think of ever driving in the left lane and not having to almost immediately overtake.

The reality in the UK should be:

LHL = trucks, caravans with xc skiing style ruts

Centre = where everyone else should be driving

    RHL = overtaking

  • My understanding too.
I've driven so many times where some dick is sitting in the middle or 3rd lane with nothing on the inner 2 but they continue to sit there.
At the risk of sounding daily mail younger drivers may not have had this drilled into them like older people and there seems to be a new breed of entitled people who do what they want and don't care what effect it has on others...

although maybe this is just human (generally male) behaviour:

Middle lane hogging, manspreading, being loud, etc etc
    bloody people
I am victor meldrew, middle aged, sometimes grumpy and guilty of hooting at people i think are crap drivers too often

  • The line of little badgers on your door, denoting kills like a WWII fighter, rather compromises your green credentials.
