  • Gavin Williamson has shown his absolute incompetence again with the last-minute announcement about A level students being able to use mock exams for their grades.

    It's an absolute shambles. The rankings and CAGs weren't perfect but we put a huge amount of time and effort into them. Mock exams are done differently by every subject in our school, let alone between different schools, they are completely unregulated, with made-up mark schemes.

    Just the latest in a long line of completely un thought-through knee-jerk policies at the expense of the professions and people they affect.

  • This whole process has been a real challenge for kids who "pull it out of the bag" with exams. Whether or not it's right, it served my son well at GCSEs and could well have done with A-levels. The option of using mocks is a complete joke - his school, like many others, used mocks to give students a timely reminder that they need to work harder, so mock grades are unlikely to offer a better outcome.
