Good question.
It's the model with the previous gear shifters to the ones on the current range, but it had the more modern calipers.

So I just picked up my new H3R from Evans, my first question occurred to me about half way home.
Should the hub be making that clicking noise? Particularly when I backpedal slightly.

- yes, the sturmey makes 3 different noises, loudest in 3rd gear.
- take it to a reputable dealer - not evans, and have them PDI the bike properly.
Enjoy it.

Are the standard front hubs on the bikes as badly adjusted lacking in lube as on new bikes.

Here is the cycling bible on line with links to exploded diagrams. https://www.sheldonbrown.com/sturmey-archer_3-spd.html then it is down to you confidence. It is quite straight forward.

Brompton to lauch a subscription service. £30 a month; insurance, repairs and twice-yearly servicing are included
-
• #9209
does it mention where the servicing is?
-
• #9211
clapclap.
Does not state which shop will do the services though.

So like Adobe CC, but for bikes? Interesting concept. Pushes people away from ownership and understanding how to fix things are downsides that spring to mind. Especially the quote about punctures. Guess it could work in certain specific situations.

So like Adobe CC
must be awful and overpriced then

£42 a month will surely buy you a brompton on a 0% card and if you get bored sell it? they dont lose value.
Of course its not for 'on here' types for the general public and companies.
It seems like Brompton is run with a lot of market research in mind (not a bad thing) but when was the last time a Brompton idea/scheme was successful?

Exactly 👌

If you buy through C2w i reckon you could use a Brompton for a year and then sell for a profit.
-
• #9217
if you buy new you can sell for a profit....
-
• #9218
Well yes, at the moment...

From a talk I was at last year(?) I vaguely recall WB-A saying that the current Brompton dock scheme was profitable (though not sure whether that included covering the setup costs).

I bought some bits from BIKEgang in 2017 and it was fine.

The name pops up a lot on Brompton Facebook groups and I’ve never heard anything bad.
I wasn’t aware they sold anything that could be classed as cheap though.
-
• #9223
No, not cheap, just cheaper. They do Joseph Kuosac carbon bars for a touch less than another store.

• #9224
Reassuring to hear the positive reviews though, cheers.

I've had stuff from them before. They've been absolutely fine to deal with. Gone beyond expectations, in fact. I've had to return stuff to them. They paid me for packing it.
Done, thanks!
