I quite like the now polished rival cranks though. And I've decided to only have square tapers on my road bike. I'd like to think I can go a little off-road with the Varonha (never gonna happen), splined cranks are better for fatties like me even if external bearings are less durable it seems (never had problems with the gxp I've been using).
About the silver versus black components... The crankset I've had new in its box for a couple of years is black. Not ideal, then earlier today I saw a bike online that had TA Spécialités Carmina cranks... Which gave me an idea.
Luckily on the Sram Rival cranks the spider is removable. A bit of sanding and polishing later this evening... Too late to hate it, it's done! Needs a lot more work but I've got time given the pace of that project.
