  • Thanks everyone!

@snottyotter that’s odd! So are road/MTB cassettes the same size/spacing (talking sram/Shimano of course)

I think this post answers my questions re compatibility assuming I’ve identified the hubs correctly.
    https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/hope-xc-convert-from-1x9-to-1x10/

I have pinged hope and email anyway.

  • Yeah, All SRAM or shimano or anything hyperglide that isn't trying work for campag is the same spacing as far as speeds go, MTB or road, 10 speed takes up less space because the gaps are smaller, there were a few only 10 speed freehubs that won't take anything else and 11 speed road needs a longer freehub body, MTB fits on an 8/9/10 freehub as it overhangs the base of it a little, spacing is still the same though so they work between road and MTB still.

  • I have drilled 3T Rotundo to accept exactly this set up in the past!

  • Time to change the bearings in my Phil Wood track hubs. How can I figure out which type I need? When I bought them from BLB back in 2011 there was only one model of track hub I think.

  • Isn’t it usually stamped on the seal of the bearing? Failing that get them out and measure them.

  • Question. For some reason I get motion sickness whilst reading on a train. With potentially longer train commute when back in office, I don't want to get bored.

Do those motion sickness wrist band things make any difference? Anyone used one?

  • I think the answer is only potentially as a placebo. Have you considered podcasts or audiobooks?

  • I suffer bad if driven or take my eyes down. I used to get motion sickness whilst parked at the side of the Queen Mother Reservoir if, out of the corner of my eye, the reflection on the little waves was just right. I'm unable to travel in the back of a car.
I suffer periodically with labyrinthitis. My doc suggested Stugeron (over the counter). It works for me.

  • You mean acupressure?

If you believe it, it might.

  • My doc suggested Stugeron (over the counter). It works for me.

    Nicola Stugeron?

  • I hadn't actually. Good shout.

  • Surprising irritation side effects

  • Am I being an over-sensitive old cunt? Yes I hear you say.... but read on.
I associate the English flag (St George) with the likes of EDL and every racist wanker I have ever known. Perhaps I shouldn't but I have never seen one on a house or car and thought "What fine, upstanding, reasonable, people they are displaying that flag".
Now the wearing of blacked-out union flags with The Thin Blue Line through the middle on colleagues DPVs/BPVs always felt wrong to me when I was in the job. I am even more uncomfortable now that the American police are using similar Stars and Stripes flags. It has come to mean something more sinister recently, see Blue Lives Matter etc.
Am I wrong to have made a complaint regarding a TBL flag attached to the railings outside a police station I pass every day?

  • Possibly that flag could alienate members of the public whom they are 'policing by consent'.

I think its a fair cop..

  • I’m with Billy Bragg on this, reclaim the flag from the racists.

  • Window cleaning.

Are any of the gadgets for domestic window cleaning worth it? Steam cleaners, Karcher window vacuums etc. Or should I just get
A big and a little squeegee and a scrubber?

  • Will now google for “window cleaning mumsnet”

  • Given that the 'thin blue line' harks back to the thin red line in warfare, suggesting that the police are a military outfit at war with at least a section of society, no.

  • I think the Thin Blue Line became a thing during the miners' dispute 1984-5. I think the press were suggesting the police were protecting the rest of society from the starving miners. I was there but all the action was at places other than where I was. We "southern forces" were mostly seen as the good guys whereas the Met were, and always have been, cunts whenever they're off the leash.

  • the Met were, and always have been, cunts

I've always thought the safest course of action was to assume that they were just the largest and most heavily armed criminal gang in London, and act accordingly.

  • Given the professionals just use Fairy liquid with scrubber / squeegee, I'd stick to that. Just buy good ones.

  • Am I wrong to have made a complaint regarding a TBL flag attached to the railings outside a police station I pass every day?

It's not quite the situation they have in France, with the police there displaying the Confederate flag as a substitute for the Swastika, but it's adjacent. I'd not want to see my local force making common cause with quasi-military white supremacists who routinely murder BAME people.

  • The Karcher window vacuum is shit.

  • window cleaning mums

Cautionary tale: this is a NSFW search term.

  • I've got one of those, it's great. Although I only use it for removing the condensation from my windows in the winter.
