Doesn't sound great for the judge

I've clearly got that wrong, apologies.

Oh, that's Philipsen. Haven't seen any more news on Jakobsen. Grim.

• #26056
Jakobsen has been put into an induced coma and taken to hospital, has internal injuries apparently. The finish line judge is in a critical condition, was resuscitated at the scene by some accounts.

What a fucking mess. Dylan should keep his line and people should wait with their tweeting.

Race doctor reported Jakobsen had a fractured palate and crush injury to upper respiratory tract and but successfully intubated. She was crying whilst being interviewed by press.

Jesus if that’s true then that can be indicative of some very serious injuries. Hope he can make a full recovery from this, poor guy
-
• #26062
Oh shit. My wife is a doctor and reading those injuries she just winced and said stuff I wouldn’t want to repeat. Fingers crossed for the dude

I think DG future employment prospects may be limited

Broken palate WTF? How is that possible.
-
• #26065
I did see one pic where his helmet appeared to have come off during the crash.

The crash was one of the worst I have seen.
Good news - https://twitter.com/D_Ludwinski/status/1291103623406063616?s=19

The speed obviously made the situation particularly bad, but I don't think Groenewegen was uniquely evil. Will probably see more egregious sprinting this season

Slow motion always makes things look worse than they were, but he very clearly moved twice to try and block Jakobsen, then used an elbow that ultimately put him in the barriers. Whether that was intentional or not is hard to judge, but it was dangerous riding.
He doesn't have a reputation, at least as far as I'm aware, for being dirty, so the actions today came as a shock to me. But that's probably the most blatant door shutting I've seen for some time. That it had such terrible consequences, and at a race where a hugely talented young rider lost his life last year, amplifies it.

No brain injuries is spectacularly good news if it’s confirmed as a broken palate can be associated with it apparently. Hope he’s not too traumatised by it

If this photo confirms Whittle’s statement then this is a fucking scandal

Fuck. Was just telling the missus this is gonna be carnage with everyone just riding turbos all year and straight onto Euro roads and then this. Way worse than I expected

There was a crash in Milano-Torino too, street furniture in the middle of the road, but nothing like Poland. On a happier note, good to see Demare win.

Is a railway line better or worse than a load of spectators who would ordinarily be there. The scandal, frankly, is the UCI not banning riders who deviate so much for longer and sending a strong message. I’m sure Groenewegen has previous for this but I can’t recall exactly when to look it up.

Steel and concrete don’t tend to move as much as humans, who are softer, too. Spectators take their chances being there knowing what can happen. I know what I’d rather crash into at 60kph.
A solid ban for a big deviation like that would be a good move and might well happen before the dust settles
Where did you see this?
