My guess would be a tail wind going up would be favourable as that’s more of your total time. Also it’s the bit you are working on as opposed to coasting

His fastest ever time up is at 13.8km/h. I don't know what speed he was doing during this though - I'm sure it can be worked out - his ride is probably on Strava

I'm sure you could plug in some numbers into Analytic Cycling to work out if a tailwind up was worth more than headwind descending losses.

True, but how does the maths work out for strong headwinds on descents? Is the time loss less than the gain uphill at slow(ish) speed?
