What's interesting about this is that all the sets shown are ones that didn't sell very well. Not that the kids on the receiving end would care about that one bit. I still hope they'll find the thieves, and I really would like to know if they'd break them up or try to sell the actual sets. I strongly suspect the former.

Oh they're glued together around metal support structures. No chance of falling apart.

Ah, thanks, I should have thought of that, of course. The glueing-together I'd heard of before, and I suppose metal supports are obvious if you think about it for a moment.

It's not that lego won't self support at that scale, it's more that it becomes unwieldy and expensive because you have to build it almost solid

I think i read somewhere that you would need a tower over 2 miles high of 2x2 bricks for the bottom one to break under the weight.
edit: 375000 bricks, which are roughtly 1cm tall, 375000 / 100 = 3750 metres / 3.75km (or 2.33 miles)

So, I've done a number of Lego sets with the kids over lockdown.
We're now working through my old sets to work out which pieces are missing.

I love the fact that the Saturn V is made from 1969 (the year of the first moon landing) components.

Didn't know that but I also appreciate it now that I do

Pleasingly nerdy discussion of the control panel interfaces found on the sloped 2x2 Lego bricks.

Ha. Good fun. The original Space ones are obviously still the best. :)

Simple fun with the boys today. Well, it would be if they didn't keep pinching all the bits I pick out to build with!

I really look forward to getting paper bags in LEGO sets instead of plastic ones:

Adidas x Lego sneakers
WOW YES THIS IS IT
That's a lot of LEGO in just that one sculpture. I always wonder if they use DUPLO inside or if they're hollow (probably wouldn't be stable enough in the latter case). Probably done from photographs, as the poses chosen for the bears are very sweet.
