  • Up for a challenge? I did this segment in 0:36. Give it a go! https://strava.app.link/G8Z5hf73s8

  • 8.6% average can’t be right!?!

  • Probably, tough bit of canonbie is the hairpin

  • After this morning I agree.
Just back from a recce, turning halfway is bit dodgy and seems unhelpful. Speed bumps aren’t great nor is the bend at speed, also quite windy up there today.

Anyway did 500m in 31 mins which I’m pretty happy with as I was trying to pace an hour.

  • How was it? It's a pretty nice climb to do reps on in terms of road width, road surface, traffic volume, turnaround space top & bottom.

  • Opted for Canonbie. Which isn’t as bad for turning as I’d thought it’d be.
I’ve had two 30 min attempts.
Think I’ll be shy of 1000m but should get over 900.

  • You racing this year @Josh012? Thought I'd keep the Why Train thread on track.

  • Nats is too long for me but will be doing anything sub 90s.

  • Haha yeah, just had a look at your KOMs on Strava - happy to coexist in the LFGSS Hill Climbers Club, I’m no good at 90 seconds!

  • A niche within a niche within a niche preserves both our egos

  • So HCs are likely to be 'on'?

  • HCs are likely to be 'on'?

Like any other races, they are permitted if they can comply with the risk assessment. Some won't be able to, some won't be willing to. TTs are still being cancelled at fairly short notice (a week or two before closing date for entries), so it's looking like pot luck whether you can construct a worthwhile HC season.

  • Worthwhile for me would be just doing one race.

  • My comment stands 🙂

  • I’ve seen a couple on CTT cancelled already. Might email some organisers and see what their vibe is.

  • Kingston Wheelers on Leith Hill is in the balance, they can’t get a venue for the HQ. They may run it as a club event with no HQ though... others tbc

  • Yes! I’m going to have a go at the short ones too, if they happen.

  • Beachy Head CC on Butts Lane:

We are still planning on running the event. There will be alternative plans for the prize giving though. We will see.

  • Wigmore CC on Hollingbourne Hill:

We are currently looking into our event and how to run it while adhering to social distancing rules, etc. We expect to run it but not sure exactly what the format will look like at the moment.

  • Farnham RC on Brockham Hill:

Yes we are definitely intending to run our Hill Climb again this year whilst obviously complying with whatever restrictions we are under at the time.

    CC Basingstoke on the same:

I am fully intending to run the event - subject to the national situation.

So @lowbrows, in summary, organisers are keen and will go ahead where possible.

  • Right as a non club member what’s the best thing to do, do I need to sort any registration stuff yet?

  • If you want to ride open events, you need to join an affiliated club. LFGSS.CC will do. While you're doing nothing else, register on https://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/ so that you can enter events online.

  • Great thanks. Will I need a lfgss jersey?

  • You can wear any jersey without a logo / sponsors on it. I’m sure someone will lend or sell you a sharkpit though. Represent!

  • Yeah I’m up for that, guess I’ll need a wanted ad.
