  • For the MGOF riders in here, is it your go-to road bike?

    If not, why not?

    Curious.

  • Lovely
Need a grammo ahead 100mm myself

  • Lovely
That stem & shamal wheels work well
    Max Corsa Extra 😍

  • Yes in the last year.
The difference(s) between a good MGOOF and a modern bike is probably less than what you'd expect, if that's what you're wondering.

  • Hey, some of us only have an MGOOF!

  • what about your clutched mech hydro disc bike?

  • is it your go-to road bike?

  • I was getting the impression most were built up as flights of fancy rather than riders. So was wondering how much they all get ridden.

I had a full-carbon road bike about five years ago so can remember what that was like (light, inspiring but a bit flimsy feeling) and I don’t think I’ll go back. I may just be in the honeymoon phase on this new build.

@pastry_bot, mine is my only road bike, too!

  • Help this poor Belgian and tell me what MGOOF stands for?

  • What wheels should I put on my Serotta? I liked the Zipp 202 tubs, but being a big lump the 16 spokes don't really inspire confidence when descending. Seabass (who are building it up) recommend some light bicycle rims, which I'll probably go with if there are no other suggestions, but keen to hear what people think.

  • This is what it looked like before I stripped it down and Rob repainted it:

  • ModernGroupsetOnOldFrame :)

  • Light bicycle Chinese carbon things by arkane wheels?

I think you'll be fine with this choice.

  • Not entirely sure what Arkane wheels is/are, but the suggestion was shallow light bicycle tubeless rims on Dura Ace hubs. And a Dura Ace groupset, I imagine.

  • I built mine as an cheap experiment and it's been much better than I expected.
A mate of mine was a tester on this and was pretty impressed how good the Wilier (not old, but old tech) was considering the rest of the field.

  • @broken_777 on here. Recommended.

Can I have your 202s plz.

  • It is for me.

  • Sublime! Do you have a Kelme tricot that goes with it?

@snoops If it's the right bike for you, you will ride it. You may choose your cf for racing (tho I have raced sporadicaly my mxl in the past years), but long rides, socials and recovery is a lot of (more?) fun on the MGOOF.

  • Just different. Enjoy both classic and compact mamil romps. Even fixeh / mtb. No racer.

  • Thanks, @damskodonny . Unfortunately I don't have a Kelme jersey. I do have a Telekom (I had a Telekom MX L in the past but it was too large) and a Hitachi Jersey (had a Hitachi Corsa Extra) but no Kelme. Most of the Kelme jerseys on the bay are from the Look of Gios era.

And in reply to @snoops : I only have MGOOF-bikes. My "most modern" bike is my Master. I use it for training and cyclosportives (I don't race any more, I'm too old for that). Here's the Master (refers to the bike, not the rider...) in action on Passo Pordoi during the 2018 Maratona dles Dolomites

  • Nice. Great to hear all these stories. I’ve just ticked over 1000km in the first four weeks on mine, so I echo all the feelings above.

I don’t see many old frames out there so I’m pleased to hear the great builds I’m seeing here are being ridden.
