  • Is anyone about during the week next week for some riding?

  • Nope. Drove out from Kingston, takes about 30 mins on a good day- another reason to move SW! The ride out on a more xc bike could maybe be done in a bit over an hour or so, but you'd have to be nailing it. It's a nice off-road route out though.

  • I went to the Bull Track last night for the first time to try and find my jump mojo again. Highly recommended! Really progressive from easy tables to full-on BigBoy(tm) gaps

  • Where is it, Crowborough?

  • Yeah, the mountains of the Weald

  • Anyone got any 27.5 boost bits they want rid of? Forks / wheels / groupset items?
Alternatively anyone spot any decent offers on the above (unlikely it seems given the availability of most bike related things)?

  • Got a pair of RaceFace (Aeffect I think) 170 cranks with I believe a 32t

  • I have this front wheel still:

Rim is a bit narrow mind

  • Have these nice boost 650b wheels still knocking about:

  • Why hasn't anyone bought @amey 's mtb yet? Mad Bargz

  • @jono84 should buy it back ;)

  • I really should of, serves me right for not having notifications switched on.

  • Is there somewhere to park for Peaslake/Leith Hill area that is a bit further out which won’t be rammers at around 10am?

  • Could try the Holmbury youth hostel / Hurtwood car park

  • Why hasn't anyone bought @amey 's mtb yet? Mad Bargz

Too small for me, too large for Cycliste. Which is weird, because I bought a pair of trousers from @amey and they fit beautifully.

  • Ha! It was a good bike. Too rad for me

  • Tomorrow I'm thinking about doing @MTB-Idle's route. Anyone keen to join me for early(ish) start from Sutton? Or an earlier start from Wimbledon potentially.

  • two key things to note and a couple of other points:

    • when I rode it there was a section closed just after southwater requiring a painful on the hoof diversion. Check whether this is still closed and plan an alternative. There is a downs link site somewhere, hopefully there is an update on this
    • you can enhance the final descent into Brighton. Just after the two roundabouts that cross the Brighton & Hove bypass you turn right into Three Cornered Copse. Go straight across and down the open space and this leads into a wooded trail that then leads you into Hove park. More off road, less road
    • there are a few watering points along the route. The lake at Southwater park has a nice cafe for hot and cold food and a few miles further on is Stan's Bike Shack. You only need to do one of these as they are so close together. I usually choose Stan's as it is bike specific and has track pump and tools etc.
    • just after you cross the small bridge over the river Adur and before you cross the fast road to get onto the first South Downs climb (in my pic up there) is a water tap and trough to the right of the trail on a tight corner. C'est potable.

    Weather looks fine, enjoy

EDIT: added link which details the closure but it looks like it finishes today but be prepared in case of works overrun.

  • Slight change of plans as I’m lazy today it appears- best place in town to look at pads/chest and spine protection etc?

I went to the big Evans on Mortimer street before.

  • Amazing, thanks.
@Dammit I can have look for my old skiing spine brace if you like?
Ah for those halcyon days of hucking cliffs...

(I suspect that Ellis might be a good place, as might (if you want a drive) Ski Bartlett.

  • Ah, I hadn’t thought of skiing places- interesting!

  • Best not to talk about today.
Had a side wall cut 5km from my house and had to walk home.
Chain split after 25km on attempt 2.
And then my hasty repair of aforementioned side wall failed around Guildford. 50km, no real off-road at all. Much swear.
Try again next week. Or maybe I'll just go ride some trails. Probably the latter.
And there are barely any trains back to London.

  • If anyone wears size 11 five-tens and wants a pair that I’ve worn once then let me know. They’re the green ones.

  • Is that 11 US or UK?

  • that's a real shame.
