  • Should it go that way you'll be at the top of the list! But they just look and feel soooooo lovely

  • Artists impression - including bone achingly narrow clearance at the rear.

  • Nice! Any idea how wide they measure up? And how wide are your rims internally? Thanks in advance.

  • I recall my Muddy Fox back in 1991 has about 5mm chainstay clearance either side of the rear tyre a 2.1 panaracer smoke !

  • Internally they are 22mm - only using tape measure though but this is backed up by an old catalogue I dug up.

The tyres are running at just about exactly the 2.1 as advertised so 53/54mm. They look and feel great.

The clearance I have is an issue though. Probs only 2/3mm each side... have been having a search about - a ghetto crimping of the chain stays at the right spot should create a dimple to give me a couple of mill extra to play with... with the steel frame it SHOULD be okay - I’ll have a think. Watch this space!

  • Looking nice & squidgy, can’t wait to see it rolling!

  • After several weeks away I have come back to a mountain of parcels of bits and pieces to start to put this bike back together.

Wheels are currently getting built up by Arup of this very parish so hope to have them back in hand soon.

Have also sourced an 11 speed 11-40 Shimano XT/XTR set up, some M730 cranks AND some XTR ST-M900 brake levers all for good prices from ebay and negotiated from various fields in Denmark.

Fingers crossed this can all begin to take shape ASAP. Been a long time coming and perfectly timed for the rotten weather to sweep across the country.

  • Looks sick. Subbed

  • Finally a day of progress - got my wheels built up and back courtesy of Arup which I was really pleased with. But then the first real challenge to try and sort was the issue of tyre clearance in the chain stays... Now being stubborn and having already bought the tyres - i wanted to keep them. They look great and i think they will ride great too. As you can see here in picture 1 and pictures above. Clearance was minimal.

  • So after a bit of research time and plucking up of courage i got hold of a cylinder of steel that I used to "cold work" the frame of the stays just a touch to get a few extra mm out of the key area.

With the old hub in place to avoid any spreading in the rear spacing and some (admittedly pretty shonky) clamps i had lying around - I wedged the bar down as far as it would go and began to hammer it down to gain that all important extra 6mm or so.

  • After some fairly rigorous hammering I have created a dimple that although is not huge - does give me daylight between the stays and the tyres and a clean spinning wheel.

  • With that job taking slightly more time and energy than i factored in - I was then able to just do a couple of other easy jobs today and figured that a fresher body and mind would be best before starting on the cabling.

So got the bars and seat post in, new cassette installed (11-40), rear derailleur attached and the cranks at least in place (need to search through my parts box for some suitable bolts though.

However - it is feeling light. I am loving the bullmoose bars and cannot wait to get it out on its first spin. Seems like it has been a long time coming!

  • Tyres look really good; well done on the bodging.

  • Looking so tuff & squishy, love it!

Brave move with the DIY crimping... I’d be too scared not to use a vice.

How does the XTR 11-speed shifter feel?

  • @ectoplasmosis They feel great. Super crisp and snappy - really happy with them. XTR shifters with the XT derailleur and cassette.

  • All done.

Feels great. Need to sort saddle position and height a touch. But it stops well and shifts brilliantly. Looking forward to getting it out onto some rough stuff on the weekend!

Really happy with how it has all come together.

  • This turned out nice! Like the details of the cable and end cap colours.

Just so you know, your derailleur clutch is currently turned off.

  • This has turned out so well!

Love the yellow accents & the purposeful cruiser flavour.

Could do with a straight seat post and an older saddle, perfect otherwise!

  • Fantastic outcome!

  • That has turned out really nice. Nice use of the yellow cables.
And those wheels fill out the frame quite nicely to create a good looking overall stance.

  • really want to put yellow cables on mine now!

  • Your MF looks great!
Can I ask what those bars are?
